Real0ne -> London terror attack in Westminster (5/1/2017 11:31:45 PM)

BRITAIN’S official terror threat remains at “severe” – meaning an attack is highly likely – following a deadly attack outside the Houses of Parliament in London.

Khalid Masood, 52, was identified as the knifeman responsible for carrying out the Westminster terror attack on Wednesday March 22.

Westminster attacker Khalid Masood was also known as Adrian Elms and Adrian Russell Ajao

The Kent-born terrorist, born Adrian Russell Ajao who later converted to Islam, was responsible for murdering four people including a police officer.

His murder rampage came to an end when he was shot dead by police after he mowed down pedestrians long a pavement in Westminster before stabbing a cop to death in the grounds of Parliament.

Better a knife than a gun. Can only imagine how many more people would have died or been injured in such an attack if it was as easy for them as it is for an American to get their hands on a gun.

my bad, the nuance I missed, , however
Edited to add. That thread may not have been about knives, but my issue is that you stated it was new news, not that it was about knives, boo hoo, as FD says, its been discussed to death
There was a big stabbing in texas yesterday, but you didnt bring that up, you just wanted to slag britain off again.

Your link isn't about knives either.
The headline reads: FIGHT AGAINST TERROR

And knives still aren't new news - they've already been banned here a long time ago.
That has been brought up several times in gun threads.

Lucylastic -> RE: London terror attack in Westminster (5/2/2017 8:55:54 AM)

Heres a link to the stabbing in texas
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/05/01/stabbing-reported-at-university-texas-at-austin.html

UT Austin stabbing spree: 1 killed, 3 others wounded, suspect in custody
A student at the University of Texas Austin attacked his fellow undergraduates Monday with what authorities described as a "Bowie-style hunting knife," killing one and injuring three others.

UT Austin Police Chief David Carter identified the suspect as 21-year-old Kendrex J. White, who was taken into custody without incident near a gymnasium.
Late Monday, the deceased victim was identified as Harrison Brown, a UT freshman from Graham, Texas. There was no immediate word on the conditions of the other victims.

Authorities had no word on a possible motive for the attack. Carter noted that three of the victims were white males and the fourth was an Asian male. The suspect is black.

University President Greg Fenves decried what he called an "unconscionable violent attack" and announced that all classes and activities had been canceled for the day.

"This breaks my heart that any of our students are touched by tragedy," Fenves said. " They come here to learn, to look to the future."

freedomdwarf1 -> RE: London terror attack in Westminster (5/2/2017 9:18:16 AM)

Armchair critics, Ron.
Too busy watching Dirty Harry and Death Wish and waiting for everyone else to do their bit for them.
As long as they can keep their precious guns, they really don't give a shit.

A ban is already in place

UK Ban on knives

Selling, buying and carrying knives

The maximum penalty for an adult carrying a knife is 4 years in prison and an unlimited fine. You’ll get a prison sentence if you’re convicted of carrying a knife more than once.
Basic laws on knives

It is illegal to:

sell a knife to anyone under 18 (16 to 18 year olds in Scotland can buy cutlery and kitchen knives) unless it’s a knife with a folding blade 3 inches long (7.62cm) or less
carry a knife in public without good reason - unless it’s a knife with a folding blade 3 inches long (7.62cm) or less
carry, buy or sell any type of banned knife
use any knife in a threatening way (even a legal knife)

Lock knives are not classed as folding knives and are illegal to carry in public without good reason. Lock knives:

have blades that can be locked and refolded only by pressing a button
can include multi-tool knives - tools that also contain other devices such as a screwdriver or can opener

Banned knives and weapons

It is illegal to bring into the UK, sell, hire, lend or give anyone the following:

butterfly knives (also known as ‘balisongs’) - a blade hidden inside a handle that splits in the middle
disguised knives - a blade or sharp point hidden inside what looks like everyday objects such as a buckle, phone, brush or lipstick
flick knives (also known as ‘switchblades’ or ‘automatic knives’) - a blade hidden inside a handle which shoots out when a button is pressed
gravity knives
stealth knives - a knife or spike not made from metal (except when used at home, for food or a toy)
zombie knives - a knife with a cutting edge, a serrated edge and images or words suggesting it is used for violence
swords, including samurai swords - a curved blade over 50cm (with some exceptions, such as antiques and swords made to traditional methods before 1954)
sword-sticks - a hollow walking stick or cane containing a blade
push daggers
blowpipes (‘blow gun’)
telescopic truncheons - extend automatically by pressing button or spring in the handle
batons - straight, side-handled or friction-lock truncheons
hollow kubotans - a cylinder-shaped keychain holding spikes
shurikens (also known as ‘shaken’, ‘death stars’ or ‘throwing stars’)
kusari-gama - a sickle attached to a rope, cord or wire
kyoketsu-shoge - a hook-knife attached to a rope, cord or wire
kusari (or ‘manrikigusari’) - a weight attached to a rope, cord, wire
hand or foot-claws
knuckledusters

No ban on knives, though there have been strict rules in place for many years now regarding carrying what are deemed 'offensive weapons'. I could wander all over London with a meat cleaver or even a sabre - so long as I can demonstrate I'm not carrying either to use as a weapon. (The meat cleaver because I'm a butcher; the sabre because I'm on my way to a Boer War reenactment, for instance.)

Strangely, though, there are no rules banning those lunatic Americans who visit the UK with their cretinous mantra of 'people kill people, weapons don't kill people'. Actually, American visitors seem to be able to tour the UK without carrying any weapon at all, much less a gun - yet, somehow, manage to feel free enough to enjoy their time here.

Weird. Go figure. Freedom can be felt without carrying a weapon. Doesn't make sense, does it?
