Trump's Obamacare repeal hangs in balance

President Donald Trump's latest attempt to repeal and replace Obamacare is hanging in the balance.
Republican lawmakers are trying to rally votes to pass a new health bill this week after their previous attempt two months ago collapsed in disarray.

Mr Trump insists the new measure covers Americans with pre-existing conditions "beautifully".
But even many Republicans say the bill undermines that popular element of President Barack Obama's signature law.

Haven't we been here before?
Republicans withdrew a healthcare bill in March to replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, after they were unable to secure enough support to pass it.

The withdrawal embarrassed the president, who has repeatedly vowed to repeal and replace his predecessor's accomplishment.

It was also viewed as a major setback for Republicans, who were unable to rally behind the party's long-held goal to repeal the law, despite control of both the House and Senate.

Moderate Republicans were unhappy that the bill cut health coverage too severely, while more conservative lawmakers felt the changes did not go far enough.

What's different about the latest bill?
It has an amendment designed to woo hard-line conservatives, allowing states to ditch key Obamacare insurance regulations.

It keeps an Obamacare clause requiring insurers to provide coverage to those with pre-existing conditions, however, it also allows insurers to charge higher rates to those same patients.
States could obtain a waiver to allow insurers to charge higher rates based on the "health status" of a person if they let their coverage lapse.

Insurers could also offer policies that limit benefits for those with pre-existing conditions, which could affect the quality of policies.

The new bill's amendment also allows states to apply for permission to opt out of the law's essential health benefits, including maternity, emergency care and mental health.

What's the key sticking point?
At the centre of debate is whether the new amendment protects Americans with pre-existing conditions such as cancer or diabetes.

House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan insisted on Tuesday that "there are a few layers of protections for pre-existing conditions".

Mr Trump told Bloomberg News on Monday: "I want it to be good for sick people. It will be every bit as good on pre-existing conditions as Obamacare." (oh ffs Donald thats not what it says a few lines up-or perhaps thats his definition of the word beautifully - beautiful lying fuk)

But critics say the new bill will allow insurance companies to charge sick people at significantly higher rates, ultimately pricing them out of the market.

The American Medical Association, the Association of Medical Colleges and other consumer advocacy groups have called on Congress to vote against the measure.

That reminds me is he actually going to do anything (WW3 aside obviously(oh and him swelling his own companies coffers at the expense of the tax payer)) at all, or is his first(and last) short lived term just going to be him repealing, or trying too, everything handsome Obama did.

Have none of you democrats, and sanish replublicans, tried on the orange globule here is $20 now fuk off - oh come on its worth a try

if the right wing nutsuckers really want to replace the ACA......perhaps they should stop letting the insurance companies write the bills they attempt to present.......[>:]

Votes today, I think. And this one is going to the floor of representatives - should be interesting and where they have a majority or 23ish

Crucial House vote to be held on Obamacare repeal bill

The US House of Representatives will hold a vote on Thursday on a revised healthcare bill that Republicans hope will replace Obamacare.
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy said the leadership in the party was confident it had secured enough votes for the bill to pass.
It would then go to the Senate where it could face a more tricky passage.
President Donald Trump made the repeal of his predecessor's signature law a central campaign promise.

He has played a personal role this week in persuading wavering Republicans to come on board.
Their first attempt at getting a healthcare bill collapsed in disarray in March, despite the party controlling both legislative chambers and the White House.
But several key Republicans this week reversed course, partly due to an amendment by Congressman Fred Upton to provide $8bn (£6.2bn) over five years towards coverage for sick people.
But Democrats said the amount was woefully inadequate....

Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer said: "The Upton amendment is like administering cough medicine to someone with stage four cancer."

Members of the House Freedom Caucus, a group of ultraconservative lawmakers, indicated the Upton amendment would not be a deal-breaker for them.

In March, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said 24 million people would lose health insurance under the bill, which is called the American Health Care Act.

FR

You know WD, while the UK Healthcare is good.

Obamacare is NOTHING like what's going on the UK.

Many people can't afford Obamacare, or can't even use the Obamacare that they paid stupid amount of money for?

Premiums are like 10k per annum, if you can imagine. And deductibles are like 10k too. This means, the first 10k of your bill, you still need to cough out from your own pocket. After paying the insurer 10k per annum.

There is nothing great about Obamacare.

So now, what's going on is, people can't even afford basic care, as 10k per annum could have gone for basic care but it went all into paying for Obama Care.

Then when they get sick, they still can't afford the deductible.

Trump needs to figure out a better solution though.

Look at the pretty picture on that article link ;)

Trump cant figure out the time of the day he is that incompetent.

heh who said this It's imploding and soon will explode and it's not going to be pretty.

Greta75 -> RE: Trumpnocare v handsome'Obamacare Round 2 (5/4/2017 3:24:29 AM)

I don't know what pretty picture you are talking about.

Jimmy Kimmel kid? Imagine if this was some poor parents. They still gotta cough up 10k upfront of deductibles for their kid's surgery!

What if they can't afford 10k?

Wait you are worried about the number of uninsured rising? When the difference is. Trump is gonna make getting insured a CHOICE. Of course then many who been coughing out blood trying to afford Obamacare, will drop it for sure!

You know, insurance is complicated. Not many people feel they need it. If it wasn't compulsory to buy, many wouldn't buy.

As long as Trump keeps pre-existing condition mandatory for insurers to cover. Everything will be fine. Those who needs coverage later can choose to be covered at a later date.

I cant help you because you are a blithering idiot.

Are you now telling me that trump is repealing (well he is trying too) the affordable care act so as to give people a choice of whether they can insured?

WickedsDesire -> RE: Trumpnocare v handsome'Obamacare Round 2 (5/4/2017 5:11:17 AM)

Anybody (especially Fake News media) who thinks that Repeal & Replace of ObamaCare is dead does not know the love and strength in R Party!
1:56 PM - 2 Apr 2017

Do you think that is a stable coherent man?
A lying fuk who tries to enable his own lies with more lies and anything that does not fit within his lying paradigm, and there have been thousands of lies, he labels fake news. That aside he knows less about health care in America than I do and you do.

Hours after Trump tweeted, he brought Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) to the Trump National Golf Club in Virginia to talk health policy with the outspoken critic of the failed health plan.

The president golfed and discussed policy with Paul and budget director Mick Mulvaney, said White House spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham.

After their excursion, Paul struck a positive tone, calling it a "great day" with the president.

"I continue to be very optimistic that we are getting closer and closer to an agreement on replacing Obamacare," said Paul, who fell to Trump in the 2016 Republican presidential primary.

It is unclear how a new healthcare bill would come together, with deep divides among Republicans and little interest in cooperation from Democrats. Since the bill went down, Trump has repeatedly lashed out at members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus who contributed to the defeat.

He's also threatened to cut a deal with Democrats over healthcare if conservatives in the House won't back his proposals.

But simply looking at the numbers America should have the best free health care in the World.

If the republicans, or democrats, want to replace it with something better - great. But it seems unto I, a simple humble loon, that its too late - the ethos of their health system is to make money and more money for their shareholders.

Anyhoos lets see if it gets pass the house of minions first before it gets to the senate pish swamp

All of humanity should have free healthcare - it should be enshrined in law with a fixed percentage of GDP.

Obamacare is compulsory.

Trumpcare is not compulsory.

That's why Trumpcare is seen as Obamacare Lite.

Let me ask you honestly WD?

IF you had to pay out of your own pocket 10k pounds per annum for your NHS? Would you? And how many of your friends would? People that you know around you in the UK? If they had to voluntarily cough out of their own Pocket, 10 grand per annum, to get a hospitalization insurance that only covers AFTER the first 10k of your bills, would you pay for it?

Fortunately right now, the government just takes it out of your taxes, so you don't feel like you are paying for it! over there.

But it's different for Americans. Obama care pretty much "fines" people who cannot afford Obamacare too! Trump is removing that Fine!

When people don't get Fine for not buying insurance anymore. They will stop buying. Especially when they feel they are healthy and don't need it.

And what I think Trump should do is, give free health insurance to the whole of America, by budgeting better with the tax money received. Rather than try to replace Obama care. Get rid of Obama Care. It sucks!

The government just needs to negotiate with one insurer, get the one who gives them the best deal, best price for whole country. With 300 million people on board, the rates gotta be going way down. And then, everybody gets covered. They didn't pay a single cent out of their pocket. It's their tax money being used.

Obamacare is 'dead' says Trump after healthcare victory

President Donald Trump has declared Obamacare "dead" after the Republican healthcare bill was narrowly passed by the lower chamber of Congress.
The 217-213 vote marked his first legislative victory and goes some way to keeping a key campaign promise to roll back his predecessor's law.
Democrats say the American Health Care Act will leave millions uninsured.

The bill now heads to the Senate, where Republicans have indicated they will cast it aside and write a new law....what the fuk this makes no sense
Protesters shouted "Shame on you!" as lawmakers left Capitol Hill after the knife-edge vote.

But there were celebrations moments later on the White House lawn, where the president laid on a reception for Republicans in the House of Representatives. Eh! The barbaric jackals threw a party? passed a bill in the lower piss swamp - and then decide they will rewrite the whole thing in senate - whats the point of all this?
