Funny thing about this is that it brings back memories of my high school days.
There are Christian denominations that have issues with music, dancing and coed social gatherings for teenagers (without a heavy parental presence.)
It had been tradition in my high school for the juniors to raise money to host the junior/senior prom for the graduating class, while the seniors raised money to leave a gift to the school that would benefit future students.
A full third of the student population belonged to a Baptist church that held to the idea that music was only to praise god and that teenagers did not 'party' without a ton of adults there to make sure that no one was led astray.
This of course made social gatherings out side of school more or less just for the students of the more 'lenient' religious beliefs.
It all came to a head my sophomore year when the parents started complaining about their children helping raise money for something they could not participate in.
The school board called in the pastors of all the protestant churches in the community and the parish priest and worked out a solution.
The solution was that the all the congregations would also participate in the fund raiser so that a banquet hall could be rented that would allow for a joint meal with two separate areas for the after meal 'party.'
Those raised in the more restrictive religion gathered for whatever they felt was an appropriate celebration for the end of the school year, and the rest of us went to a dance.
Technically, the school had two proms.
What some of you seem to forget, the students raise the money for the proms, and thus, if the student population raised the money for two separate proms, one for the Muslim students and one for the rest of the student body, what the hell is the problem?
