1. 500,000 refugees currently receiving Hartz service. Assuming that is helpful, then good. As a receiving country we help refugees because refugees are in need of help. Jesus would have approved.

2. Only one in 50 finds a job. Seriously, not surprising. In America we have NGOs that hook up newcomers with people from the old country who are already established. When my dad came to America as a kid his family was helped in NYC by the Association named after his Sicilian village. I wonder if the statistics include women and children. In any event Germany's effort under overwhelming circumstances seems heroic to me.

3. Two-thirds can barely read and write. That should not be surprising since they are coming out of a war zone where civil disruption has gone on for five years. Cities bombed, homes destroyed, medical and food services interrupted. No school? Still human beings. Brothers and sisters. Good on Germany.
