James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!

Mr Pence had told the press the FBI boss was fired on the recommendation of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. But then Mr Trump contradicted him, telling NBC's Lester Holt: "I was gonna fire regardless of recommendation."

The president then contradicted Mr Spicer's junior, deputy White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

The president's suggested solution for the mixed messages emerging from the White House is... Stop briefing reporters, and start writing down what you want them to say.

Reports suggest the White House press team have been scrambling to defend their boss, after failing to anticipate the furore Mr Comey's sacking would cause.

But according to the president, the sheer number of issues handled by his "surrogates" explains why the message they put out has varied.

Quite simply, they're too busy to be consistent.

The Fake Media is working overtime today!
12:53 PM - 12 May 2017

He quotes James Clapper - who was Director of National Intelligence at the time of the election - as saying there was "no collusion", but what Mr Clapper actually said was that he saw no evidence of collusion up until the time he left his post in January.

The erratic lying fuk really said all of this

Incredulous reporters react to 'tapes'

The warning that President Trump may have recordings of conversations with former FBI chief Comey has drawn incredulous responses from journalists.

Some see parallels with disgraced former president Nixon - who secretly recorded thousands of hours of phone calls and meetings that then proved instrumental in his downfall.

Others say the suggestion that recordings exist has created a set of new problems for the White House to explain.

The acting head of the FBI has said the agency will continue to investigate alleged links between Russia and Donald Trump's campaign – but will not routinely update the White House.

Andrew McCabe, who assumed leadership of the investigative agency following the firing of James Comey, said the ousting of the former director would not impact the ongoing probe. He also said it had sufficient resources to pursue the investigation.

“The work of the men and women of the FBI. continues despite any changes in circumstances,” he said, responding to Florida senator Marco Rubio, Republican of Florida.

“There has been no effort to impede our investigation to date. Simply put, you cannot stop the men and women of the FBI from doing the right thing.”

Mr McCabe also said he believed the agency had sufficient resources to continue its probe into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US election. He said he was not aware of reports that Mr Comey had asked for more.

“If you are referring to the Russia investigation, I do. I believe we have the adequate resources to do it and I know that we have resourced that investigation adequately,” he said.

White House says James Comey committed 'atrocities' as FBI Director
Scrambling to defend the president firing of Mr Comey, the White House had earlier said the 56-year-old had lost the confidence of the majority of the rank-and-file members of the investigative agency.

With no small irony, it claimed his handing of the probe into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server had rendered his position untenable. In truth, Mr Trump had praised Mr Comey for carrying out the investigation, and on several occasions during the 2016 election campaign had said he admired his “guts”.

On Wednesday, White House deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Mr Comey had committed “atrocities” during the investigation.

“It’s been an erosion of confidence,” she said. “The Department of Justice lost confidence, bipartisan members of Congresss made it clear that they had lost confidence and rank and file members at the FBI had lost confidence in their director.”

“Director Comey enjoyed broad support within the FBI and still does to this day,” Mr McCabe said at the hearing. “The vast majority of FBI employees enjoyed a deep and positive connection to Director Comey.

During a Senate hearing, Republican Senator Andrew Burr asked Mr McCabe if he ever heard Mr Comey tell the President he wasn't the subject of an investigation. Mr McCabe said he “can't comment on any conversations the director may have had with the President”.

But Mr McCabe did vow to tell the Senate Intelligence Committee if the White House tried to interfere with the bureau’s Russia probe – though he asserted that there had “been no effort to impede our investigation to date”.

Well, he is no threat then. Why would you worry about him. If things are as you scream he is the best thing that ever happened to the Democrat party

Exactly like Obama, but in reverse

Why aren't you happy

Wasn't the hypocritical lying ugly hippopotamus on the telly, greeting like a wee baby, too his Russian overlords to leak the rest of Hillarys emails

In normal times you would logically conclude no Premier would ever do that ever. But we live in trump-boscox times, a land of make beleive and fake news and trepanning.

heh boscox who said this? Trump asks Russia to hack Hillary's emails. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNa2B5zHfbQ

One, ever so slight problem with Trump's warnings over leaks....

Actually, a few really...

1) The FBI director (actually every one since Hoover) routinely records phone conversions between themselves and elected officials, due to the 'he said, he/she said' issues with 'leaks' or misquotes given to the press.
2) Any information that Comey may feel the press should be aware of, since he is no longer director of the FBI, he is not bound by the 'cannot comment on an ongoing investigation' rule, can be disclosed unless such disclosure directly affects national security.
3) His personal notes on the investigation, those which he jotted down as pertaining to possible lines of investigation, possible links between individuals that needs to be followed up on, etc are just that, his personal notes.
Since he is no longer part of the investigation, he can give those notes to whoever he wishes, and as many people as he wishes to give them to, from the press to congress members who are looking into the entire matter.
This was determined to be legal after a court ruling during the Watergate investigation in which Nixon fired the special investigator then turned around and demanded his arrest after he released the notes he had kept.

In other words, our esteemed President may have shot himself in the foot and or ass by firing Comey, since the only thing that kept him from going public with all that he had found out was the simple fact he was Director of the FBI and thus, required by law not to talk to anyone until the case was closed or had gone to court.

Thus this 'warning' is Trump's way of trying to cover his ass with a band aid when he really needs a fucking circus tent.

I truly hope he blabs his mouth off.

isnt there a name for this interference or something?

this bit should scare everyone Mr Pence had told the press the FBI boss was fired on the recommendation of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. But then Mr Trump contradicted him, telling NBC's Lester Holt: "I was gonna fire regardless of recommendation." For you see here he has switched to idiot paranoid god mode and the implications of that, in conjunction with both letters, and trumps own letter with the Russian bit jammed in - and the fact he reiterated he was not under direct investigation accoridng to the man he stabbed in the face - oh wait he sacked him by telly

Why would Trump ask him twice over dinner to pledge loyalty?

Well, not really, no.
Whatever you can say against Nixon, he was a clever man, an effective president and a halfway plausible liar. That you're comparing him to a congealed lump of shit that wouldn't recognise diplomacy if it bit him in the ass, thinks the whole purpose of the federal government is to bail out his failing businesses, and weighs his worth as a politician by positive media coverage is downright insulting to Nixon.

do any of you remember 1973? I was born in 69 and live far far away

It took more than a year or two to play out. The House Republicans finally voted a bill for Impeachment for Nixon's misconduct:

Article 1

RESOLVED, That Richard M. Nixon, President of the United States, is impeached for high crimes and misdemeanours, and that the following articles of impeachment to be exhibited to the Senate:

ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT EXHIBITED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IN THE NAME OF ITSELF AND OF ALL OF THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AGAINST RICHARD M. NIXON, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN MAINTENANCE AND SUPPORT OF ITS IMPEACHMENT AGAINST HIM FOR HIGH CRIMES AND MISDEMEANOURS.

ARTICLE 1

In his conduct of the office of President of the United States, Richard M. Nixon, in violation of his constitutional oath faithfully to execute the office of President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in violation of his consitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, has prevented, obstructed, and impeded the administration of justice, in that:

On June 17, 1972, and prior thereto, agents of the Committee for the Re-election of the President committed unlawful entry of the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee in Washington, District of Columbia, for the purpose of securing political intelligence. Subsequent thereto, Richard M. Nixon, using the powers of his high office, engaged personally and through his close subordinates and agents, in a course of conduct or plan designed to delay, impede, and obstruct the investigation of such illegal entry; to cover up, conceal and protect those responsible; and to conceal the existence and scope of other unlawful covert activities.

The means used to implement this course of conduct or plan included one or more of the following:

making false or misleading statements to lawfully authorized investigative officers and employees of the United States;

withholding relevant and material evidence or information from lawfully authorized investigative officers and employees of the United States;

approving, condoning, acquiescing in, and counselling witnesses with respect to the giving of false or misleading statements to lawfully authorized investigative officers and employees of the United States and false or misleading testimony in duly instituted judicial and congressional proceedings;

interfering or endeavouring to interfere with the conduct of investigations by the Department of Justice of the United States, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the office of Watergate Special Prosecution Force, and Congressional Committees;

approving, condoning, and acquiescing in, the surreptitious payment of substantial sums of money for the purpose of obtaining the silence or influencing the testimony of witnesses, potential witnesses or individuals who participated in such unlawful entry and other illegal activities;

endeavouring to misuse the Central Intelligence Agency, an agency of the United States;

disseminating information received from officers of the Department of Justice of the United States to subjects of investigations conducted by lawfully authorized investigative officers and employees of the United States, for the purpose of aiding and assisting such subjects in their attempts to avoid criminal liability;

making or causing to be made false or misleading public statements for the purpose of deceiving the people of the United States into believing that a thorough and complete investigation had been conducted with respect to allegations of misconduct on the part of personnel of the executive branch of the United States and personnel of the Committee for the Re-election of the President, and that there was no involvement of such personnel in such misconduct: or

endeavouring to cause prospective defendants, and individuals duly tried and convicted, to expect favoured treatment and consideration in return for their silence or false testimony, or rewarding individuals for their silence or false testimony.

In all of this, Richard M. Nixon has acted in a manner contrary to his trust as President and subversive of constitutional government, to the great prejudice of the cause of law and justice and to the manifest injury of the people of the United States.

Wherefore Richard M. Nixon, by such conduct, warrants impeachment and trial, and removal from office.

Adopted 27-11 by the Committee on the Judiciary of the House of Representatives, at 7.07pm on Saturday, 27th July, 1974, in Room 2141 of the Rayburn Office Building, Washington D.C.

There will be no America left in 1-2 years

Crossed my mind that one too Whoremods Hmm Nixon was plausible, with an IQ in 3 digits, not like the lying dumb cunt and i do remember thatcher - she was a mad one - but intelligent,yet fixed and stubborn - is a serious flaw, not a commendable attribute

Anyhoos Vincent whats stopping him getting strung up now? How many lies will it take and dodgy manoeuvres buy the orange titanic

He has lied so many times I cannot count them all, he has brought the Presidency, American Democracy etc into disrepute (this is well bond a blow job, or North) - and yet part of me feels the foundation of the electoral college (votes) was to prevent this from happening - as ive said many times in the past

And part of me still feels, given enough leash , he will start a war, invade somewhere

GOOD POINT . . .

Yeah, exactly.

Nixon was smart, well-qualified, and in many ways, a good president.

He was also paranoid, vengeful, and blind on the stupidity of Watergate, sealing his own (deserved) demise.

He also believed he was above the law. That's the main trait he shares with Trump.

I suspect that Nixon's grasp of foreign policy and other virtues as a president have been rather ignored over Kent State and the way he was chased out of office, to be fair.
