heavyblinker -> Trump campaign had at least 18 undisclosed meetings with Russians (5/18/2017 4:06:40 AM)

The floodgates have opened, and now there is so much shit that it's impossible to keep it all straight.

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-russia-contacts-idUSKCN18E106

quote:

The 18 calls and electronic messages took place between April and November 2016 as hackers engaged in what U.S. intelligence concluded in January was part of a Kremlin campaign to discredit the vote and influence the outcome of the election in favor of Trump over his Democratic challenger, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton.

Veterans of previous election campaigns said some contact with foreign officials during a campaign was not unusual, but the number of interactions between Trump aides and Russian officials and others with links to Putin was exceptional.
“It’s rare to have that many phone calls to foreign officials, especially to a country we consider an adversary or a hostile power,” Richard Armitage, a Republican and former deputy secretary of state, told Reuters.

Don't worry RWNJs, it's not really happening.
Everything is perfectly normal and fine.

Governments talk with each other, that's why we have governments. Obama and his people talked with the Russians. Hillary and her people talked with the Russians.

These are people gearing up to run the government making phone calls, getting ready to assume power

The information about Flynn, who the article is mostly about, was already known

From your own link:

quote:

The people who described the contacts to Reuters said they had seen no evidence of wrongdoing or collusion between the campaign and Russia

The real questions are, why was Obama using government resources to surveil the opposition political campaign for Hillary

And why would you trust a media that is openly at war with this president.

Even if you don't like him, if you had half a brain you would want honest facts rather than all of this constant fake news propaganda and spin

You may go back to your hysterical nonsense now

WickedsDesire -> RE: Trump campaign had at least 18 undisclosed meetings with Russians (5/18/2017 5:53:05 AM)

Are you mental or something? Did your unicorns write that for you?

I see you opted for a treble hysterical defence of:
Mwaaaaaaaa Hillary someone
Mwaaaaaaaa Handsome Obama
Mwaaaaaaaa fake news

you forgot Mwaaaaaaaaa Comey you dullard

Trump: If Clinton releases emails, I'll release taxes

Trump asks Russia to hack Hillary's emails I think that one is my favourite bosocx and there are thousands to choose from whats your favourite of your master?

heavyblinker -> RE: Trump campaign had at least 18 undisclosed meetings with Russians (5/18/2017 7:11:05 AM)

Fake news?

So wait, which part is fake-- that they had at least 18 meetings or that they didn't disclose them?
What about when Pence and others insisted the Trump campaign had no contact with the Russians during the election?

People who said that they didn't have contact with the campaign had contact with the campaign.

You zero in on the part that says they cannot yet prove collusion and think it's some sort of victory?
Did I actually say that collusion had been proven?

We're not changing the topic to Obama.
If you want to talk about Obama, start an Obama wiretapping thread.

Oh something to do with the CIA and rigging the election coming from trumps own mouth. Something to do with the DNC and delegates.Something to do with wikileaks and DNC "emails" and fake news.
Asking russia find her emails. He hoped they were hacking her....

Saying the election was rigged in october, especially after the DHS put up notification in october that they were looking into the situation.
DHS did put out this
For Immediate Release
DHS Press Office
Contact: 202-282-8010

The U.S. Intelligence Community (USIC) is confident that the Russian Government directed the recent compromises of e-mails from US persons and institutions, including from US political organizations. The recent disclosures of alleged hacked e-mails on sites like DCLeaks.com and WikiLeaks and by the Guccifer 2.0 online persona are consistent with the methods and motivations of Russian-directed efforts. These thefts and disclosures are intended to interfere with the US election process. Such activity is not new to Moscow—the Russians have used similar tactics and techniques across Europe and Eurasia, for example, to influence public opinion there. We believe, based on the scope and sensitivity of these efforts, that only Russia's senior-most officials could have authorized these activities.

Some states have also recently seen scanning and probing of their election-related systems, which in most cases originated from servers operated by a Russian company. However, we are not now in a position to attribute this activity to the Russian Government. The USIC and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) assess that it would be extremely difficult for someone, including a nation-state actor, to alter actual ballot counts or election results by cyber attack or intrusion. This assessment is based on the decentralized nature of our election system in this country and the number of protections state and local election officials have in place. States ensure that voting machines are not connected to the Internet, and there are numerous checks and balances as well as extensive oversight at multiple levels built into our election process.

Nevertheless, DHS continues to urge state and local election officials to be vigilant and seek cybersecurity assistance from DHS. A number of states have already done so. DHS is providing several services to state and local election officials to assist in their cybersecurity. These services include cyber “hygiene” scans of Internet-facing systems, risk and vulnerability assessments, information sharing about cyber incidents, and best practices for securing voter registration databases and addressing potential cyber threats. DHS has convened an Election Infrastructure Cybersecurity Working Group with experts across all levels of government to raise awareness of cybersecurity risks potentially affecting election infrastructure and the elections process. Secretary Johnson and DHS officials are working directly with the National Association of Secretaries of State to offer assistance, share information, and provide additional resources to state and local officials.

It will be interesting to see how Vice-Pres Pence reacts to the news that there were extensive contacts between the Trump campaign and Russian officials and intermediaries. Pence was furious when he discovered that Flynn had lied to him about the extent of Flynn's contacts with the Russians, and was widely thought to be one of the people demanding (and getting) Flynn's removal. Pence had gone public assuring people that there were no Russian connections.

Now it turns out that there has been a series of contacts with Russians above and beyond Flynn's. It is not clear whether Pence was informed about these contacts, and I rather suspect that he wasn't. We have already seen the damage done when the Asst AG felt manipulated by Trump over Comey's dismissal - he went ahead and appointed a special prosecutor against the wishes of the White House, giving the White House a mere 30 mins notice before going public with news of the appointment.

How will Pence react when and if he realises that he has been misled again over the Russian connection? How is Pence feeling surrounded by the chaos and contradictions of the Trump Administration? How long will Pence remain loyal to a boss who has repeatedly misled and lied to him?

ETA: After posting the above, I came across this in the Guardian:
"Later this afternoon, all eyes will be on vice-president Mike Pence, who is scheduled to deliver remarks at the US Chamber of Commerce summit at 12.15pm ET. Yesterday, Pence became the first sitting vice-president to form his own independent political action committee, a Pac representatives said was aimed at helping Republicans win elections in 2018 and 2020. As impeachment rumors continue to swirl around Trump, however, the timing of such a move invites speculation on Pence’s mindset at a time when some DC insiders have begun referring to him as “President Pence”.

Im not going to be surprised if Pence is in on it Tweak, lol ....not after this month.

That they knew Flynn was being paid, before the inauguration(according to the wa po, mcclatchy and NYT)

quote:

Flynn was working for the Turkish government while working for Trump, which means that he was advocating for policies that benefited Turkey while serving as Trump's national security adviser. And Trump may have known about this. Those revelations are from reports late Wednesday published by McClatchy and the New York Times, respectively. Taken together, they're damning because what Flynn did gets at the heart of being a democracy: He was on the payroll of a foreign government while in a powerful position in the U.S. government.

Lobbying for a foreign government while simultaneously working for the U.S. government crosses just about every ethical red line you can think of, experts say.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) just fired a top state official because the official didn't tell Abbott that he was also working for the Iraqi government. When that happened, I talked to Meredith McGehee with the Campaign Legal Center about why such dual roles are a fireable offense. She explained:

“There's recognition that there are competing interests and a number of potential conflicts that arise between one government and a foreign government,” McGehee said. “That's just kind of built into a system, where a public servant is supposed to be serving the American people, not serving a second master.”

She added: “Can you imagine a U.S. senator saying, 'Oh, yeah, I'm a U.S. senator and, at the same time, I'm lobbying on behalf of Mexico'?"

As for how this ties to Trump, the New York Times reports that Flynn told the president's transition team weeks before the inauguration that the Justice Department was looking into his undisclosed lobbying for Turkey. So it's very possible that Trump knew Flynn had financial ties to the Turkish government when the president hired Flynn as his top adviser on national security.

As McClatchy reports, the potential conflicts involving Flynn started almost immediately. He wrote an opinion piece for the Hill on Election Day titled, “Our ally Turkey is in crisis and needs our support.” Here's a [link=https://img.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/files/2017/05/FLynnHill.png]snippet:

And, as McClatchy reports, the Turkish-U.S. Business Council moved its annual summit from the Ritz-Carlton to the Trump International Hotel in Washington.

The United States has a law — the Foreign Agent Registration Act — to prevent this sort of conflict. It says U.S. citizens who lobby for foreign governments have to tell the Justice Department about it. Flynn didn't do that. He didn't disclose his lobbying work to the federal government, nor to Trump (at least immediately). Flynn, as a former military official, also has to get the military's permission to do this kind of lobbying work.

“The notion you would be working for any government entity and also lobbying on behalf of a foreign government is quite concerning,” McGehee said.

For all of the above, Flynn is at the center of myriad investigations.

If he was unawares, he is totally incompetent.

This allegation was already disproved by both GOP congressmen and the Justice Department.

And, these were not members of the government, but campaign employees who were also setting up lines of communication that would circumvent the normal means, thus back door communications to keep agencies from knowing what they were doing.

And when you consider the reasons the sanctions that they were trying to circumvent existed in the first place, it is fairly obvious they were trying to hide something.

Give it up, your boy may not have known what his people were doing, but now that the cat is out of the bag, he is going overboard trying to keep it all from coming out.
