WASHINGTON — President Trump lashed out Thursday, saying he was the target of an unprecedented witch hunt, a day after the Justice Department appointed a special counsel to investigate ties between his presidential campaign and Russian officials.

In a pair of early morning Twitter posts, Mr. Trump cited, without evidence, what he called the “illegal acts” committed by the administration of his predecessor, Barack Obama, and the campaign of his former opponent, Hillary Clinton — and said they never led to the appointment of a special counsel. He misspelled the word counsel as councel.

“With all of the illegal acts that took place in the Clinton campaign & Obama Administration, there was never a special councel appointed,” Mr. Trump said.

Moments later, Mr. Trump added, “This is the greatest single witch hunt of a politician in American history!”

The posts, shortly before 8 a.m., were a stark contrast to his muted reaction to the announcement on Wednesday evening that Robert S. Mueller III, a former F.B.I. director, had been named to investigate ties between the Trump campaign and Russian officials.

In a statement released by the White House, the president said, “As I have stated many times, a thorough investigation will confirm what we already know — there was no collusion between my campaign and any foreign entity. I look forward to this matter concluding quickly.”

How Mr. Trump should respond to the appointment was the subject of brief, but lively debate in the Oval Office, several senior officials said, with most of the president’s aides counseling a conciliatory tone. Mr. Trump often takes his most combative stances in early morning Twitter posts.

Yes I'm glad I am not American. If I was, and I was forced to endure the leader of my country engaging in such pathetic juvenile posturing, setting himself up as a victim - the leader of the free world, and the holder of the most powerful office in the world as a victim puh-leeeaasseeee! - as the subject of a witch hunt, when the entire world knows that Trump has brought all his troubles upon himself, pleading for sympathy as the most put-upon politician of all times, alternating between victim talk and petulant bravado like a 5 year old .....

.... what a sad sorry spectacle, if I was American I would be cringing with embarrassment. To those Americans out there who are wondering how their country is going to survive the orange disaster, the rest of the world doesn't hold the American people responsible for the orange disaster but fortunately you have the remedy in your hands....

Impeachment, which only a few days ago was a wet dream for the Dems, has suddenly become a real alternative to further continuous national humiliation at the hands of the orange disaster. Go for it America!!! The first step towards making your country great again is getting rid of the orange disaster.

I often wonder how intelligent people can read the news yet still support Trump and feel good about their vote. Well... all it takes is to include in your news gathering sites the likes of Fox news. While most every other news organization was leading the news with the appointment of the special prosecutor Fox led with the death of their X woman molester...and the witch hunt story.

If all I watched or listened to were Fox news... Hannity and Rush I would have a very warped view of President Trump and world and national affairs. But... I do watch and listen to them along with other news sources just so I can have a well rounded view of American politics.
