When will these dirtbags finally accept that they aren't in an islamic country? If they don't like it, fucking leave. We shouldn't have to change because of their religion. Piss off to Saudi Arabia and stop fucking whinging.

They will face the fact that religion cannot be used to influence dates of school activities as soon as kids go to school on Christmas and stop having those silly holidays around that time of year.

I think it's total bullshit when a prom gotta cater to people's religious practices.

And they even talk about postponing dinner to be sensitive to these 24 people who can't eat because of their religion. WTF!

So the rest of the student need to starve with them until they break fast?

WTF?

I never understood this type of stupid accomodation.

While I firmly believe in the separation of church and state, you should be aware that public schools in the US accommodate Christian religious beliefs by scheduling convenient winter and spring breaks (which always coincided with the Christian calendar) simply by changing the names. In the UK Easter week is still on the calendar. In the US it is not.

Ramadan is a month long event but there should be little difficulty in scheduling teacher workdays around the more important dates. It may break your little heart but it would be a wise and receptive move aimed at assimilating an alien population. When I was a kid Columbus Day was a school holiday despite the fact that Chris enslaved the natives he found. It helped assimilate the Italians by giving us some recognition of the well springs of our culture. And the missed day was simply tacked on to the end of the calendar like some snow day. It was an unexceptional entry in the school scheduling which required 180 days come hell or high water, and served to welcome part of the community. If public school serves any function beyond textbook learning it importantly provides community and its benefits.

Vincent,

Christmas and winter break in public schools happen at the same time because so many students would miss school for travel. Easter and spring break have nothing to do with each other (at least in Washington or Kansas).

In this case, with what the article stated, I agree with the school. The prom date has been set, rentals for tuxes and limos and dinner reservations have been made. Hair and make-up appointments have been made. Dance venue reservations have been made. All sorts of stuff has been done on the knowledge that June 3rd was going to be prom.

If they want to make a note for next year to prevent coinciding with Ramadan, that is fine.

To change the date now though, is going to make things rather difficult.

Greta75 -> RE: Elite Brooklyn school won’t change prom date over Ramadan conflict (5/26/2017 8:48:46 AM)

I have no idea why Christians would travel so much on their religious specific days, it's not like they need to travel long pilgrimage to Bethlehem or something right? And why the school needs to schedule it at the same time.

I don't believe in accommodating any religion.

But school holidays in my country are in June and in December. Each are a month long.

So I don't think they deliberately coincide with Christmas, but it's just mid year and end of the year. Just made sense.

Would islamic societies make such amendments for christian beliefs? Hell no! Why should we bend over backwards for them when they have absolutely no respect for our cultural differences to begin with? Why allow them to get away with the exact attitudes that you/leftists condemn white western people doing?

Termyn8or -> RE: Elite Brooklyn school won’t change prom date over Ramadan conflict (5/26/2017 4:05:39 PM)

What about Ramadan prevents them from going to the prom ? Don't answer because I really don't care.

So what if they miss the prom ? I'm surprised that backwards religion lets them go at all.

T^T

With arranged marriages in play, they wouldn't be allowed.

Because we endeavor to be an open and tolerant society. What don't you comprehend about American ideology? Is Australia not similar?

I agree. And a part of the article that seems to have been overlooked is...

Brooklyn Tech officials said Monday they never received the petition and had no prior knowledge of it.

It's because they are weak from not eating all day and too much temptations of food and drinks in Prom.

tamaka -> RE: Elite Brooklyn school won’t change prom date over Ramadan conflict (5/26/2017 9:14:53 PM)

It's probably more of a respect for the holiday.

We'll be tolerant of those who are tolerant of us, IN OUR COUNTRY.

So they miss the prom. Schools shouldn't even have proms. I bet Muslim schools don't have proms. In fact most Muslim girls don't even go to school.

You want to bend over backwards for people who thinnk they are superior because of their Allah then you do just that. but don't tell the rest of us what to do. And that goes for the Semites and Muslims as well.

They can all go fuck themselves. Come here, you adapt to us, not the other way around. Don't like it, well maybe you would be happier somewhere else. Let's all chi[ in on plane tickets so the can go to a Muslim prom.

One way.

And if it is hate to preserve one's culture and societal ways, tough shit.

Termyn8or -> RE: Elite Brooklyn school won’t change prom date over Ramadan conflict (5/26/2017 9:18:24 PM)

So if the kids eat or drink then they are apostates and their Father can kill them when they get home.

T^T

Greta75 -> RE: Elite Brooklyn school won’t change prom date over Ramadan conflict (5/26/2017 11:48:20 PM)

It's all these stupid special treatment to worry about, that's why I want to ban all religious bullshit in things like school prom and whatever events that involve people of all types of religions. Nobody gets consideration for their religion. Nobody gets special treatment.

I swear! We gotta let an atheist run it, so they can run it without any religious context at all. Then no religions gets any consideration or special treatment. As religion is a CHOICE, not something they MUST adhere to. It's all 100% within themselves not to have to adhere to it.

If a Muslim kid is hungry from starving. Great! Let's feed them and tell them, screw their fast! Health is more important!

I tell any Muslim in my country, to just eat if they are hungry, as I am sure their Allah don't want them to die of starvation, get gastric or whatever.

Oh, and they actually are allowed to snack on dates all day if I am not wrong, at least in my region. So they can eat as much dates as they want when they are on this starvation month.

vincentML -> RE: Elite Brooklyn school won’t change prom date over Ramadan conflict (5/27/2017 12:35:10 AM)

Tolerance does not discriminate by definition.

What would Jesus do?

I am not sure there is any equivalent situation in Jesus history to even know what would Jesus do in this situation! If he was holding a dinner party for everybody, is he gonna post pone it because Muslims are fasting and he wanna include them? I doubt it!

Jesus dinner party is like that story about him multiplying bread and fish or whatever to feed the whole crowd. Hell, he ain't waiting for the Muslims! If they don't show up for the food, too bad!

There's a lot of debate about just which elements of the mosaic law Jesus objected to but God was quite adamant to Peter that kosher dietary restrictions should be ignored in Acts. Intriguingly, that chapter seems to be using unclean food as a metaphor for unclean people (who aren't jewish) and stresses that no man may call common what God Himself has cleansed.

On which of Jesus's character traits would you doubt it? Do you think him impatient? If he is the merciful, loving man, brother, father, god of all human creatures would he not wish all to attend his feast? He has all eternity; what do a few more days matter? Would he not be all inclusive?
