I am reading Quiet by Susan Cain. She mentions that Finland is the most introverted country in the world. I thought that was interesting and immediately thought of the idea they have of giving everyone an allowance. I wonder whether being a nation of introverts effects your politics etc? I am thinking about how the article says Japan rewards introverted people. Basically Japan rewards people who don't speak out and just timidly follows and obey. Not sure if that is rewarding introverts.

Are you defining the old evil Japan as the military imperialist model from the late thirties and early forties, or the financial expansionist model that ran a huge chunk of southeast Asia during the '80s? If it's the latter, China has a very shitty reputation for its treatment of foreign employees working outside of the country as well, and are probably employing a lot more factory workers elsewhere than japanese firms are these days.

Japanese firm have a shitty reputation for how they treat their own fellow Japanese. They treat foreign and their own precisely the same. Treat them less than human. Yes I've never denied China is evil. Just look at their history, they could not get it together as a country for such a long time because of so much infighting for power with each other. Finally today they got their shit together, but still trying to oppress Hong Kong and Taiwan. And they threaten us Singapore all the time, because we are Chinese and they expect us to be 100% on their side for all things, the whole One China thingy, they want us to be a part of it, when we are practically against them about everything! And fortunately, they don't got history the way they got with Hong Kong and Taiwan to have any power to say we belong to them. But we support Hong Kong and Taiwan oppositions who are against One China. China sees US as their enemy honestly and often accuse Singapore of being traitors by having a good relationship with US. Even our PM always gotta remind China that we may be Chinese but we are two different countries with different belief system and we are just different. We can't adhere to their way of things. We built our own society, just like Taiwan built their own society. That is about more progress. I mean, come on! Taiwan, voted for their Female President, and then legalise gay marriage. That's a forward country! Doesn't deserve China to keep threatening to take them by force. Seriously on the chinese countries side of things. Taiwan is doing all preparation to defend themselves against China military invasion. They are prepared to fight to defend their independence. I wonder if it will ever come to war in this region for that situation. It depends on how long China is willing tolerate their defiance.

Isn't China's biggest issue with Taiwan that the Taiwanese government has been claiming to be the true Chinese government in exile since China was taken over by Mao's lot? Unlike Hong Kong, I don't think Taiwan was set up as a foreign trading port by a Chinese government. I'm pretty sure it started off as a Japanese colony and was seized by the non communist "Chinese" government when they were forced to flee mainland China after losing the civil war. Given that, it's hardly surprising that there are elements of the Chinese government who find Taiwan's mere existence embarrassing and annoying, and want to acquire it. They'd probably feel the same way even if Taiwan wasn't desirable as an economic asset, which it very obviously is.

I don't think Taiwan is antagonising China at all by claiming to be the "True Chinese Government". I think they just want to be recognized as a country on their own and carry on and be truly independent of China. And even if they claim that, it's petty of China to give a shit.

Quietly working yourself into insanity trying to attain academic excellence is expected. But the way they score traditional archery shows more of the attitude towards sports; you get scored higher for perfect form than for hitting the center of the target. ... an impression from many port calls in Yokosuka back in the 80s. BTW, I like the Japanese MacDonald's... 14 different fish sandwiches and a very very overpriced Big Mac.

You shouldn't confuse timid/shy with introversion. They are two different things.

FR Can an extrovert be timid and shy? How? The point of introversion is being around people stresses you up. Which for me, I always need a huge break from being around people as it drains the energy out of me and I need a humongous amounts of time alone. Even when I thought I was having a great time, I still need rest from having a great time with people I enjoy the company of. IT drains the crap outta me, like humans are energy sucking leeches! The internet has been a great place for introverted people like me because we can hang out at places without the physical presence of another human being but still have dialogue. It's for me, literally the physical presence that drains me. And extroverts gains energy from being around people. And as an introvert if i fight for my rights and assert my view, and I am not talking about online, but in real life. It takes alot of courage, because the energy to do that is absolutely draining. It's much more chill to just keep quiet on one corner and don't do anything about it. But I just got this personal sense of justice where if things are not right, I gotta do something. And that forces me to get over the timid and shyness to express myself. I appear to be outspoken and extroverted in real life to many Asian people who are timid and quiet and will never express how they feel. But the only difference between me and them is, I got strong beliefs about certain things that the desire to fight for those beliefs are very very strong that it helps me get over my fear. But in most Japanese and Chinese companies, speaking your mind or challenging your boss means losing your job or becoming public enemy number 1. It is a huge risk but I guess being a single person with no dependent, I have no fear of that. People with families may really need the job and can't speak out.
