President Donald Trump had concerned Americans scratching their heads Sunday night after he tweeted that he now wants to pour more money into health care.

“I suggest that we add more dollars to Healthcare and make it the best anywhere,” he wrote.

That was strange because Trump’s budget plan submitted just days ago called for cutting at least $610 billion from Medicaid and slicing an additional $250 billion from health care by repealing Obamacare. The White House plan also calls for cuts in future spending on health care for children from low-income households. There is no additional spending for any health care in the plan.

The weird disconnect on health care wasn’t a first for the president. When Trump met with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull in New York City in early May, the president praised that nation’s health care system. “You have better health care than we do,” Trump said.

He was perhaps unaware that Australia has a government-run, publicly funded universal health care system — and at a fraction of the cost of American health care. It’s a system Trump would be more likely to denigrate as socialist and even worse than Obamacare. The Congressional Budget Office estimated last week that Trump’s health care proposal would leave an additional 23 million Americans with no health care coverage by 2026.

The White House later said that Trump was just being nice and not pushing for the Australian system in America.

In another puzzling tweet on Sunday, Trump boasted that his tax reform package was moving along “ahead of schedule.”

In fact neither Trump nor Congress has yet proposed a comprehensive tax plan. The White House has released a single page of bullet points in search of a plan that leaves many details unaddressed and questions unanswered.

The problem is...

He has no clue how healthcare in the U.S. works. He has no idea what drives the costs, or impacts the quality.

Nor do Republicans in Congress. But they simply follow the insurance and Pharma lobbies.

Trump has been pro-single payer healthcare from the beginning of time. It was no surprise to me he would praise Australian Healthcare, he wants the same for the US.

The biggest issue he face is that, the party he used to win Presidentialship, is against single payer healthcare.

So he has to compromise somewhere. It would take God himself to come down from heaven and order the republicans to do single payer healthcare for republicans to ever support such a plan.

And there was no point for him attempting to run as a democrat as he guessed correctly that, they were all rooting for the first female president after having the first black president. So he as a old white male, just like bernie sanders do not stand a chance of being their nominee. But EVEN if Trump ran on Dems, and perhaps he might be against Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio or even Low Energy Jeb, he would have won.

But the way, it's rather confusing why do Americans like to use the word "Single Payer Healthcare"? That term just does not make any sense to me. Universal Healthcare sounds more logical.

MrRodgers -> RE: Trump flips on healthcare? (5/29/2017 10:31:24 PM)

What surprises me is...where is the capitalist here ? Take every other industry and they add up to about 84% of the economy.

Now if they can stick the govt. with pensions they renege on, they can get the govt. to completely take over the passenger railroad liabilities, and they can stick the govt. with financial insurance, why not stick the govt. with health insurance and be done with it.

It's obviously going to come out more cost-effective in cost per employee, they no longer have to worry about offering it or seeking out groups and the workers will be healthier and more productive...less time off too.

WickedsDesire -> RE: Trump flips on healthcare? (5/30/2017 2:36:02 AM)

Well I think he was talking about slashing everything by a $1 trillion or something and pumping £10 dollars back in. What a guy, what a humanitarian, cares for all you know. We all know he cant count right? And has no concept of the wheel. Probably say he invented if if you explain it to him.

How's the trumpnocare bill doing in the senate anyway? Costed it yet after ramming it through the lower house at the second attempt - not that many of the republicans actually read it - to much gibberish, probably

heavyblinker -> RE: Trump flips on healthcare? (5/30/2017 3:04:10 AM)

I think it's more that he never really knows what he's talking about, and the GOP is more than happy to let everyone else be totally confused about everything while they do whatever they want.

WickedsDesire -> RE: Trump flips on healthcare? (5/30/2017 4:08:18 AM)

Well its clear to me, and you, and some others he has no fuking idea what he is talking about. And yet there he is.

i can never find this clip but its the one he said we have so many great/tremendous things to replace Obamacare with that people have never thought off

AHCA: Donald Trump celebrated Obamacare repeal by lying about what the bill does

President Trumps biggest Obamacare bloopers

68 times Trump promised to repeal Obamacare

etc etc

Well given that 'Universal' health care and single payer health care are both 'universal' where is the problem ? Medicare is universal, when you are 65, you must sign up and when making claims...it is single-payer.

No one is playing games.
The medical industry is very broken if looked at in light of providing affordable basic care. When a single medical visit can cost two week's salary for the marginally employed low end of the job scale; that is not a workable model.
Historically, every time the federal government has done something about health care; it has ended up increasing the cost to the taxpayer and reducing the availability of health care to the poor and lower middle class. <soapbox> Insurance does not equate to affordable health care. </soapbox> The AHA was an unworkable bust as it provided subsidized insurance to the poor but priced insurance out of the reach of the middle class while never addressing medical charges (not cost) reaching for the stratosphere.
Not one single politician addresses the elephant herd in the meeting room; the medical industry is out of control in the U.S. If looked at from a strictly corporate structure paradigm; the medical industry in the U.S. is a cartel that constitutes the largest unregulated monopoly in the history of the country.

denying people healthcare until the costs are brought down(HAHAHHA)
is killing people.
seven years since obamacare, and they still cant figure it out.
they are fucking useless.trump isnt helping
get insurance out of the way for those who want more than basic healthcare. They are the ones putting up costs.
Get Pharma on its knees. They are the ones putting up costs.
Get private hospitals on their knees They are the ones putting up costs.
Bring the costs down, by all means,
but get the healthcare to the people who fucking need it, not who can afford it.

Lucy, middle income people don't care about the people who can't afford it. They want to drive nice SUV's and shop QVC and Amazon for their 124th pair of shoes and take their kids and/or grandkids to Disney World. Get it through your head... it's not just the politicians, it's the people.

Just the republicans eh ? You mean the republicans who let the insurance companies write the ACA and then passed it, more than likely without even reading it ?

The uneducated call it Obamacare, why do they do that if it was the republicans ? The bill was an atrocity. Democrats passed it and a deocrat signed it.

That is of course Trump's fault.

Of all the GAINFULLY EMPLOYED people I have talked or corresponded with, none of them benefited from the ACA. And I am talking engineers and such, not the people who write TV commercials and majored in basketweaving. People in their 70s who took decent care of themselves who got fucked because now they have to pay for the couch potatoes who have a heart attack at 45 and get disability and free medical for the rest of their lives. The ACA just helps them continue to eat their snacks and candy.

Yeah sure, it was the republicans. Andif you want to say they butchered the bill fine. Then the democrats should have read it and sent it back for revision. THAT IS THEIR FUCKING JOB and if it was the republicans who fucked the bill up, then the democrats did not do their job.

hmmmm......clueless and out of touch with reality....

first....you still could have voted for Bernie even with him not being nominated....

second.....you under estimate the middle class (I am one).....I am all in favor of universal healthcare

Lucy had it right.....reign in the insurance companies, big pharma, and the hospitals.....they are all doing everything they can to mine the cash from our pockets

In the US healthcare exceeds 20% of the GDP and we still have millions of uninsured citizens. Plus, each year nearly one million people are forced into bankruptcy due to healthcare costs. In the countries that do have universal healthcare the expenditures range between 8%-15% of the GDP, ALL citizens are covered and NONE go bankrupt!
