I saw a waxplay scene that was done with something that looked like a crock pot but wasn't. What are those melting pots called that you dip your whole hand into and the melted wax in the pot is supposed to moisterize and rejuvunate dry skin?

Well first off, crock pots can be perfect for wax play and I recommend then highly. Secondly, you might be thinking of paraffin tubs, and they can be readily purchased at any beauty supply, or even generic target/walmart as they have become quite popular and common.

The item I saw had a thermostat thing so it could keep track of the heat of wax, but for beauty yes, it might of been a parafin tub.:)

Crock pots can work, but you have to monitor the temperature of the wax very carefully - they tend to keep it hotter than a paraffin bath does, so burns can happen a little more easily. I have an 8 lb paraffin tub (big capacity) - the wax does wonders for your feet and hands in addition to keeping wax handy for a scene.

I don't recommend crock pots because they are all capable of heating the wax to an unsafe temperature. The paraffin spas heat them to the temperature that is safe to immerse human flesh in and no higher. Besides, they are also generally cheaper....I got mine for less than 10 bucks at Walgreen's.

How does one clean the wax? I understand you could heat it up to a liquid, not quite boiling, and spoon out anything visibly remaining in there but what about skin flakes or dander or fine hairs? Is there some way to strain the wax thru something to remove these, I'm not sure really if it would go thru a coffee filter or even a paper towel for that matter, has anyone tried this. I ask because i have seen people re-use thier wax that they used on their partner on a regular basis. Thanks jen

Well...number one, my wax is only for me..lol. If I am going to take wax for use at an event...I do not allow anyone to recycle that wax. At home, I have one of those small, fine fish nets that you use in an aquarium that I run though the wax. Also, any wax that is used on the crotch is discarded and not re-used.

fast reply I use an electric fondue pot. it's bigger than a parafin wax vat and I can regulate the temperature. The lowest setting is very mild and you can stick feet, hands, etc in it very comfortably. I got mine for about $20.00 at Target. I recycle wax when used with one person but the pot I have is a non stick pot and once the wax is cool is easy to remove in a big chunk and clean. I keep several bricks of parafin that I buy at a beauty supply store. They come in different scents too.

I get the idea of taking human stupidity and margin of error out as much as possible, but I think it's like saying you shouldn't recommend singletails before they are capable of serious injury. Crock pots are only a problem for idiots who shouldn't be doing waxplay to begin with. I'm not against extra safety margins- but there does come a point where you just say "step away from the kink"
