Well, once more President Trump proves either he does not read or cant read.

The U.S. Can’t Leave the Paris Climate Deal Just Yet

Last week, President Trump announced that the United States would withdraw from the Paris climate agreement. But it will take more than one speech to pull out: Under the rules of the deal, which the White House says it will follow, the earliest any country can leave is Nov. 4, 2020. That means the United States will remain a party to the accord for nearly all of Mr. Trump’s current term, and it could still try to influence the climate talks during that span.

Hahahhaha,A shallow gesture of a shallow man.
What a surprise...rumor is that he only upheld this campaign promise cause he didn't like how the french president shock his hand...Don't know if that's true or not,but sure sounds plausible

Greta75 -> RE: Oops (6/7/2017 9:33:07 PM)

So what were European Nations panicking about then? If he can't leave until 2020. By then a democrat could be President again.

Termyn8or -> RE: Oops (6/8/2017 1:02:53 AM)

According to the Constitution he can leave any damn time he wants. He is boss now, don't forget that.

How come people seem to never have gone to civics class. Trump is the HNIC now and can cancel most treaties, all of them that have not been ratified by congress and I think a few more, depending on a few legal issues.

Nothing is binding until he signs it AND congress approves it. Got that ? You should have known this in seventh grade.

Know what ? Fuck voter ID, make people pass a test to vote, on knowing how government works and how the powers are distributed. I mean. like people put on a referendum in a California town to impeach Trump. In my very honest opinion, those people are too fucking stupid about how the government works to be allowed to vote. I am fucking serious. It is about as effective s me voting to oust the prime minister of Israel, and the world would be much better off without him. In fact I considered it a shame he got elected, the Jews elected a war monger and one who hopes to commit genocide. I thought their population would be tired of this shit by now. Well maybe when the US money and weapons canteen closes they will have to take a clearer look at reality and their ostricisation by most of the of the free thinking world. And that money spigot is about to go dry. We'll see what Moody's says next time.

But in chorus witht eh title of the OP, YES. The whole world is an Oops. A bad one.

T^T

You mean the constitution of the world?
LOL.

Termyn8or -> RE: Oops (6/8/2017 3:49:42 AM)

The Constitution of the US which defines quite adequately what powers who has and the checks and balances that prevent anyone from becoming a dictator.

That one. You forgot ?

He can pull out of any treaty, in fact the US can just disregard treaties, just ask the Injuns.

T^T

heavyblinker -> RE: Oops (6/8/2017 3:53:27 AM)

The US constitution has NO bearing on international agreements.
And yes, you can disregard treaties, but not without consequences.

That's not necessarily true.

so, this is instructive and insightful...

ive not followed closely enough to speak definitively on what im about to suggest but, did trump ever specifically say or even allude to withdrawing from the deal simply due to his speech, or within a matter of days?

my guess is not, and if im correct in that, then youre up the creek without a paddle.

also---you, and practically every other trump criticizer here seem to think that trump does all this stuff BY HIMSELF. that is, he doesn't have advisors, lawyers, speech writers, etc, settling him into particular positions. that you happen to disagree with or don't like those positions doesn't make trump an idiot, rather, it makes you one when you think he acts/thinks in a particular way when he doesn't. unless youre a fly on the wall both inside the rooms in which these things are actually discussed, or inside trump's own mind, you'd do well to be a little more circumspect.

but more importantly, as per the information in rottenjohnny's link, who is the one who does not or cannot read here?

I believe it is more a matter of constant state of hysteria on their part, leading to a sort of psychosis wherein real world facts don't matter except for whatever red meat propaganda that will continue to feed their hate

Critical thinking is gone, it's tribal headhunting now. There's a witch about and the natives are restless

an absolutely embarrassing prime example below you and above me.

That's not new information (though maybe to Trump, who knows). It's among the reasons this is such a long-term damage decision.

Except the Paris Agreement was not ratified, or even presented, to the US Congress for Approval. What's more - it is not a Treaty and thus is not legally binding in any sense. If people want to try and push that button - then that means that President Obama would be guilty of High Treason and a gross violation of his constitutional duties. He promised US Support to the Paris Climate Agreement through an executive order bypassing Congress entirely - but this was okay at the time because it wasn't a Treaty, but instead just an Agreement.

To come in now, saying 'you are not allowed to back out until 2020.' would mean that it was a treaty - and that Obama used executive powers to force the US into an unapproved treaty which gives foreign powers limited control over US interests.

In any case - because the Paris Climate Agreement was never proposed to Congress, it was never ratified by 2/3rds vote, and thus the US Government never approved it... so from both a literal and a legal sense - we where never apart of the Paris Climate Agreement in the first place.

Mr Trump definitely has advisors. He just doesn't pay attention to them, much to their consternation.
You and practically every other Trump Worshiper fail to look at the number of his closest confidants who express exactly that.

FR -

Wow!
I never realized we have so many constitutional scholars posting on these forums - including one who refers to Trump as the "HNIC."
We are so fortunate to have such an educated and classy group to advise us.

The U.S. Doesn't enter into international agreements without the consent of the Senate. The Preident isn't a King. The Paris Agreement was never submitted to the Senate. It doesn't exist legally in this country. The rest of the world can pretend otherwise all they wish. They can also hold both hand out, shit in one and wish in the other and see which fills up first.

mnottertail -> RE: Oops (6/8/2017 12:56:51 PM)

uh, they dont enter into treaties without consent and advise by the senate. We enter into multinational agreements all the time without them.

See some of the nato dustups as of late, nancy.

The U.S senate ratified membership in NATO in 1949. I'm pretty sure the Senate has not been called upon again to ratify every decision made in NATO. You're letting your dementia think for you again...felchgobble.
