Such a shame that Bosco didn't continue reading the WaPo past the bit that got him so excited. The next article on the page he linked to states: "Sen. James E. Risch (R-Idaho) zeroed in on an explosive New York Times report that he described as “not true” while questioning former FBI director James B. Comey on Capitol Hill on Thursday. Comey confirmed that “in the main, it was not true.” The trouble for Risch and fellow Republicans seeking to discredit news accounts of the FBI's Russia investigation is that Comey also backed up several other reports and even admitted to planting a different story in the New York Times, after being fired by President Trump. [snip ...] In testimony on Thursday, however, Comey corroborated several news reports in the Times and The Washington Post that were based on leaks. He confirmed that Trump sought a loyalty pledge. He confirmed asking Attorney General Jeff Sessions not to leave him alone with the president. Comey confirmed the reported contents of a memo about a conversation he had with Trump that focused on former national security adviser Michael Flynn — and added that he, himself, directed a friend to leak the memo to the Times. Comey's testimony Thursday buttressed more media reports than it discredited. But the Risch exchange gave media detractors and Trump supporters plenty of fuel to fan their distrust of those stories. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/06/08/comey-shot-down-one-media-report-but-confirmed-a-bunch-of-others/?utm_term=.aea1d589271 (my emphasis) The claims of repeated meetings between Trump campaign officials and Russian officials have been detailed by Politico in an easy to read timeline here This timeline confirms numerous meetings between Trump's minions and the Russians. It's well worth visiting the link to understand the depth of these contacts. Politico notes: "What is the real story of Donald Trump and Russia? The answer is still unclear, and Democrats in Congress want to get to the bottom of it with an investigation. But there’s no doubt that a spider web of connections—some public, some private, some clear, some murky—exists between Trump, his associates and Russian President Vladimir Putin. These charts illustrate dozens of those links, including meetings between Russian officials and members of Trump’s campaign and administration; his daughter’s ties to Putin’s friends; Trump’s 2013 visit to Moscow for the Miss Universe pageant; and his short-lived mixed martial arts venture with one of Putin’s favorite athletes. The solid lines mark established facts, while dotted ones represent speculative or unproven connections. There’s nothing inherently damning about most of the ties illustrated below. But they do reveal the vast and mysteriously complex web behind a story that has vexed Trump’s young presidency from its start—and is certain to shake the White House for months to come.
