Or trying to be. Moved recently to a house that has well water, and I love it, but the pressure is not always good. I was going to Google the answer to this question, but the more I showered and thought, the more I decided it would be more fun and just as productive to put it here.

When running the water in the shower to get warm, will it get hot faster if I do only the hot water or if I set it to where the perfect temp is for me and let it run. I feel like I am wasting water because it takes so long.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge (or lack of) regarding this situation.

Take a look at your pipe runs from the water heater to the faucets where you can. If it's standard copper make sure it's insulated every where you can put some. They'll sell it at Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. That will help keep the temps up. As for pressure check the psi on your pump. If it can be adjusted read up on your particular model on how to from the internet. Since my experience stops at installing water heaters and running copper pipe I can't help you much on the pressure adjustment. Shouldn't be hard though.

Since you have a well water system you probably have a pressure tank that may need to be checked. That's what I would check first.

As far as how to get hot water faster . . . it's just a guess, but I'd say to just run the hot first. That way the full pressure that you do have is just pushing the hot instead of being divided. But like I said, it's just a guess.

Pressure problems are often due to the pressure tank. There's a bladder in there that wears out. Also, Youtube has a lot of videos to look at that deal with wells and pressure. You might want to go watch them. Calling in a plumber will cost big bucks. If you can troubleshoot your problem using the Youtube suggestions you'll save a lot.

We had the pump in our well replaced a few months ago. It was 28 years old, however, the fix it guy says pumps last only about 10 years on average. This well didn't cost too much, only $1700 as it was only 130 feet deep. We also had to have the pipe replaced as it was flexible and kinked when they pulled it up. The well at the rental is 420 feet. It cost over $3,000 when that pump died. You might want to think about setting a little aside every month for when your own pump will surely die.

Thanks yall for the great suggestions. I am going to start troubleshooting it tomorrow!

What is your water heater set at? Mine vibrates when the garage door opens and closes. So we constantly need to adjust the temp.
Also, the sink right above the hot water heater gets warm quickly. The one farthest takes a good ten minutes. It's 40' of 1/2 or 1/4 inch pipe. Takes a while to get through those small lines.

But I'd change the pressure switch on the well tank first.

Mine is about 20 years old now. We replaced it after about ten years, in February with snow and ice. No fun.

I went down there today and the 6 foot king snake I have affectionately named "Kaa" was there, so I left him to do his thang-lol-will try again tomorrow!

Once he's vacated the premises, may I suggest you use expanding foam to seal all entries? I'd be screaming my head off if there was a snake in the basement.

Yikes!!! And people thought I was crazy to allow a spider to live in the corner all winter. I agree with DesFIP. When he or she is gone, seal up all the holes.

Then you should probably never visit my kitchen. They wander in randomly if the door is left open. I'll be sipping tea while checking messages and suddenly sense I'm being watched, I'll look and sure enough, I'm not alone.

If you have pets or plants, you can always use this opportunity to fill their water dishes or a watering can. You'll have less guilt about wasting water and if you are heading for work afterward, you've saved a tiny bit of time by using this moment to fill their containers.

P.S. Set your boiler or water heater to the actual temp you prefer to shower at. By doing this you can run JUST the hot water during your shower, AND do a load of laundry with COLD water, AT THE SAME TIME. An added bonus is if you have small children you don't have to worry about anyone getting scalded, because the water will be at perfect temperature for washing hands and bodies.

lol he gives me the heebie jeebies but he will keep more dangerous snakes away from here is what my family has always said, so I cut him a wide berth and let him enjoy the space under te house when he wants to cool off. If he ever comes into the actual house, he will more than likely be shot until the clip is empty on my pistol tho,
