It's STILL not "the rest of the story," dumbass. No jobs created here, jobs going to China.

Why manufacturing jobs are coming back to the U.S. — even as companies buy more robots

Interesting piece! Thanks. I wish you hadn't cherry picked your quotes, starting with the subheadline:
"But for how long?"

In short:
- wages are increasing in China, making it less attractive
- robots make building things here more effective (for now)

“If you had an assembly plant that was making 500 cars a day and you shut it down 20 years ago and you offshored the production, and you move the plant here again, now you’re going to be making the same number of cars with maybe half as many people,” Moser says.

The question then becomes how long this mutually beneficial trend will last before the robots take over.

Manufacturing is still down a third from 1980.

Notice the tumble and only partial recovery of the Reagan/Bush I "trickle down" fallacy, then progress in the prosperity of the Clinton years, then the huge tumble in the doubled down trickle-down of the Bush II economic disaster, and the recovery starting shortly after Obama takes office.

I'm not cherry picking anything. The fact that we've lost jobs since the 80's or that they're being affected by technology isn't exactly new information. I was simply pointing out that despite your anger over Ford moving jobs to China, we're actually getting other jobs back from them. And more from them than any other country it seems. I thought you might appreciate some good news even if it isn't great. But apparently that isn't actually what's important to you regardless of your posts. You just wanted another reason to howl over Trump. What a fucking surprise. [8|]

It was over 5 years ago that the CEO of GM stated publicly that 7 out of 10 Chevys were now made in China. Shoot, if you want an American assembled car; Nissan and Toyota build more cars in the U.S. than GM these days.

My take on GM trucks is that they have wonderful body styling and advertising campaigns. But, when I was looking for a new truck; a test drive of several GM made trucks all hat a disturbing common thing. The thing that bugged me and caused me to reject purchasing GM was pieces of the dashboard falling off when hitting bumps on a test drive. Nothing says poor quality control like having a button off of the steering wheel fall into your lap when hitting a small pothole.

I ended up getting a Dodge Ram with a Cummins diesel... no regret at all.

Yeah, I've been a steady Toyota customer since 1993, and ex-GM customer.

You're just making up shit.

Everyone doesn't react like you. There's no anger -- I've posted elsewhere that auto jobs, long term, are gone. For starters, we have more registered vehicles than drivers in the US.

And, I've already acknowledged the good parts -- and that they are temporary (the part you ignored).

Trump? He's irrelevant here, other than doing his best to claim credit for SOMETHING, even though all he's accomplished is getting his trademarks approved in China.

You are always very angry. Wound overly tight, sprang a spring.

That's your imagination, because that imagined creation is the only way you can enter a fact-based discussion.

Your spring sprang ages long, far past repair.

But way to troll! Completely changed the subject, total attack, nothing on the topic in a thread you weren't even it!

With practice, you'll be able to stop any conversation. Keep at it! It's what the Internet is for.

Like me? What have I done except post a couple links and quote what I thought were the relevant points? You're the one that went sideways with "Reagan/Bush I economics", blah, blah, blah. I don't give a shit about any of that. It's completely irrelevant to the point I was making.

Trump? He's irrelevant here...

Yeah...I'm not buying that.

That's really funny because he shits himself whenever Obama's name is mentioned

Here he is moaning about Reagan and HW Bush

Sharing data.

You love to ignore the data.

But it's still there.

Since 1999, the US has lost 5 million manufacturing jobs and 57,000 manufacturing companies.

Very long way to go.

Other peer industrial countries instituted policies in education, R & D etc. have lost 1/2 as many or even less manufacturing jobs. US 33% (UK/US are 1 and 2) Germany ranked 13th in losses.

Well the US does not make policy to serve all of working society as do our competitors and Trump is just the latest iteration and blowhard to run his mouth to the contrary...trying to blame other and much more meaningless factors while he's at it.

Not to mention trying to take credit for corporate policies of positive changes already in place before he was elected and blaming any downside on his predecessor.

Ok. Point still is...Trump loves to pretend he deserves credit, but has done nothing to create or save jobs.

If that's not his job, better tell him.
