Still, this manspreading controversy is a real powderkeg and I'm surprised he went there.

It's just so perfectly okay to discriminate and hate men. Bully them when they are in public transport. Just don't do it to precious women because they're more valued than men.

I might be controversial but I don't get this manspreading thing, first it's not exclusive to man ar least here girls and women put their backpacks and begs between the legs in order to not being pickpoketed manspreading... femspreading maybe?, or they put the bag in the sit next to them or the feet on the sit in front (most of italian trains have 4 sits facing each other 2 by 2) occupying it, it is a simple custom to ask sorry is this sit taken and the person will free the sit or readjust himself to allow the new passenger to sit as comfortable as the other. I don't see a reason to force people to be more uncomfortable when unnecessary to avoid human contact and comunication as small as a "uhm uhm sorry". It might be a cultural difference but I don't get how americans apparently talk to random strangers in this ritual fo small talk feel intimidated to ask for more room.

Well, I'm actually 5'2 1/2 and my feet dangle more often than not, depending on the chair, on a bus or train, not so much. If it lets me stretch my leg across an obliging long legged gentleman - I'm not opposed to exaggeration and mutual benefits for some comfort.

You shouldn't be hogging a seat in the first place, then: you'll probably fit in the luggage rack on most trains and coaches.
