ORIGINAL: BoscoX Just like the Washington Post is run by Bezos bots? Welcome to planet Bezos: Amazon Robots Poised to Revamp How Whole Foods Runs Warehouses The retailer could bring its distribution technology to the grocery chain on-Whole Foods Deal Is a Game Changer When Amazon.com Inc.'s $13.7 billion bid to buy Whole Foods was announced, John Mackey, the grocer's chief executive officer, addressed employees, gushing about Amazon's technological innovation. "We will be joining a company that’s visionary," Mackey said, according to a transcript of the meeting. "I think we’re gonna get a lot of those innovations in our stores. I think we’re gonna see a lot of technology. I think you’re gonna see Whole Foods Market evolve in leaps and bounds." A major question about the acquisition is what Amazon's technology will mean for those Whole Foods' workers. Will it make their jobs obsolete? . . . Uh huh. So the mantra of "business is more efficient" as argument that more privatization of everything is better, and the "Get the government off our backs!" hissy fit that got a Boraxo salesman elected president and resulted in a decades-long Jihad against any and all regulation has the chickens coming home to roost from that nefarious endeavor and . . . Now you scream like a girl. I mean, just now you noticed? The FTC and the Justice Department's Anti-Trust Division which regulate mergers and acquisitions have had their official seal's likenesses used as target practice at the firing range from 1981 onwards, and it's never ceased. But this (potential) transaction actually has nothing to do with any monopolistic concerns at all, so in fact the massive deregulation has not much to do with it. Whole Foods is very small potatoes in the grand scheme of the grocery retailing sector, and anything about this endeavor is as legal now when BEZOS! is doing it (made you scream! again, ha ha) as it was when GM bought Delco and started GM finance, and as have numerous manufacturers bought one or several of their suppliers, etc., including those who are just now suppliers for the mother ship in a new venture. This has been been going on for ages, chappie. But as pointed out elsewhere in the thread, mostly by yourself, the issue is that you hate that a hard-core Libertarian such as Bezos is involved, whom you nevertheless consider to be "far, far leftist!" or a "radical leftist!" because anyone whose name name doesn't begin with 'Generalissimo Francisco Franco' or 'Augusto José Ramón Pinochet Ugarte' is unavoidably "far far leftist!" by your eminently sober and condign estimation. If we could all just come to an amenable and convenient conclusion that his name is actually "Jeff Rockefeller Bezos," could you find your way to shriek somewhat less screechingly, so that the rest of us could loosen our ear plugs just a bit?
