Never got into the SW scenario for some reason...more of a medieval gal (my main char in Runescape wears Indian silks but has heavy duty armor underneath).

There was quite a bit of science fiction in some of the D&D and AD&D stuff, and I suspect you're dead right that Star Wars was as much of a factor there as Gygax and Arneson both being mad keen on Jack Vance and Michael Moorcock. Hey, at least you never had to create a character under a dm (female) that had it in her head that all aspects of a character had to be generated, ht, wt, penis size (if applicable) which prove funny as hell when a fellow player created a halfling with a 20 inch cock.
