North Korea new missile test: A game-changer?

North Korea's confident announcement that it has successfully launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capable of striking the US is another iteration in the high stakes game of international poker that Pyongyang appears to excel at.

Carefully timed to coincide with the 4 July holidays in the US, Kim Jong-un's triumphal blast has simultaneously allowed the North Korean authoritarian leader to make good on his promises of military modernisation to his own people while exposing the hollow overconfident tweets of President Donald Trump that an ICBM launch "won't happen".

The launch of the North's Hwasong-14 rocket is in practical terms merely an incremental step forward from an earlier launch in May, when a similar rocket flew for 30 minutes, to a height of some 1,312 miles (2,111km) over a distance of some 489 miles.

The most recent missile added seven to nine minutes of flight time, an extra 400 miles or so in height and a further 88 miles in overall distance.

North Korea missile launch: Trump berates China on trade

Donald Trump has criticised China following North Korea's test of a long-range missile, condemning it for increasing trade with Pyongyang.
"So much for China working with us," the US president tweeted. (Trade between China and North Korea grew almost 40% in the first quarter. So much for China working with us - but we had to give it a try!)

The US and South Korea conducted a ballistic missile fire exercise in the Sea of Japan in response to the North.

China and Russia have urged both sides to stop flexing their military muscle and said they oppose any attempts at regime change in North Korea.

"It is perfectly clear to Russia and China that any attempts to justify the use of force by referring to [United Nations] Security Council resolutions are unacceptable, and will lead to unpredictable consequences in this region which borders both the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"Attempts to strangle the DPRK [North Korea] economically are equally unacceptable," he added.

The missile launch, the latest in a series of tests, was in defiance of a ban by the UN Security Council.

The US has asked for an urgent meeting of the Security Council to discuss the issue. A closed-door session of the 15-member body will take place later on Wednesday.

Have no fear. Don threatens to retaliate against NK missile strike with a twitter shit storm saying bad things about NK . . . like "unfair" "mean" "bad" and other fierce verbal hammer blows in that vain. Never have I felt so safe on my Alaska cruise. Anyway, Ex-Gov Palin assures us she will see the missiles coming from her backyard and momma bear ain't gonna 'low no missiles coming here.

Anyone know how much material they have?

No other country should be allowed the bomb - I have said that since the beginning of time - not going to change my mind on that one

Surgical strike - or leave them be (this isnt working, nor will it ever work)? For once I actually agree with Trump guffaws insanely

The US during the Bush years made very clear that the US listens to one thing only -- possession of nuclear arms.

North Korea possesses uranium mines containing an estimated 4 million tons of high grade uranium ore

They now have a nearly viable delivery system.
Weapon grade wise they have enough for 5-10 bombs, apparently.

We may need to put anti-missile frigates all over the Sea of Japan. Won't be cheap but could send a signal that we can shoot down their few missiles and it's no use continuing on their nuke program. Maybe a shot in the dark but worth a try.

Now of course this depends on wait for it...the bankers. where did we just come from ? The bankers. Same way we got Iran to the table...the BIS.

The BIS is THE Bank of International Settlements. All the west ever has to do, is bar them...from that bank. Read up on that bank and you'll see.
