Sweden to hold 'man-free' music festival

Swedish comedian Emma Knyckare is organising a "man-free" music festival in her home country in response to rape and sexual assault claims at festivals.

She suggested the idea after reports of a number of sexual offences at Sweden's biggest music festival Bravalla, which has now been cancelled for next year.

"What do you think about putting together a really cool festival where only non-men are welcome?" she tweeted.

She said it would take place "until all men have learned how to behave".

The riot grrls were into that back in the '90s, weren't they?

I'm thinking that a lot of women will not attend because there will be no men there.

All men are not guilty
All women are not innocent

Is it sexist if I write it like that?

I think the riot grrl purists had issue with Huggy Bear over them having a couple of guys in the band (one, amusingly, who was only a member because he was shagging the lead singer: the Linda McCartney of riot grrl). Some have suggested, of course, that this was because HB were a token British band and so shouldn't have got the attention they did rather than the equally cruddy American riot grrl bands who deserved it more and were more inclined to sound like a bad rip off of Sonic Youth than The Mekons with their hands broken.
I always find the pro-American bias of riot grrl hilarious given that they were obviously all trying to be the Slits or the Raincoats: great as the Runaways and the GoGos were, I don't think either of the all girl American punk bands were pushing a feminist agenda...

I actually liked that song. Ah! Yes, the feeble men - I expect, after a performance, are taken out the back and shot, or rogered with strap on dont knock it until you have tried it, or something.

Anyway where is RM

Who cares? They could hold an all woman weenie roast at a bowling alley with a lesbian headliner and Wanda Sykes as comedian. I'll take the boat out and catch some fish, or not. When I come in and go to Chix restaurant I'll be thinking about..... Supper.
I do condemn the sexual attacks though.

As do I. But women are little better, no better probably.

I just cannot condone sexism, inequality, exclusivism etc in any format. So in that respect I do care.

I preferred the Voodoo Queens out of that lot. (Mostly because they were doing revivalist '60s garage rather than post punk.)
