Mike Pence ignores Nasa 'do not touch' sign

US Vice-President Mike Pence has made a tongue-in-cheek apology to Nasa after a photo of him touching a piece of space flight equipment went viral.

Mr Pence was visiting the Kennedy Space Center in Florida when he placed his hand on a piece of hardware - despite a large sign that read "do not touch".

He later apologised to Nasa on Twitter, joking that Florida Senator Marco Rubio "dared" him to do it.
Nasa has assured Mr Pence the equipment was in need of a clean anyway.

The vice-president, who addressed Nasa staff at Cape Canaveral on Thursday, sparked a social media storm after a photo emerged of him touching a cover for the Orion spacecraft, which was labelled as a piece of "critical space flight hardware".

On Friday, Mr Pence apologised to the space agency - while pointing the finger at his colleague.

Was actually our most read news story at one point today.

Anyway i think they actually put these things in an oven at 120c for 60 hours or something just before they are packaged up and launched.

I was watching the NASA channel, and Vice President Pence was giving a speech. I listened for a while before turning off the TV so I guess I missed out on that particular moment in our history.

I was enjoying listening to the kids ask questions of the astronauts who are on the space station, prior to the programming changing to a meeting with a lot of name throwing and a speech from the Vice President. I will say this, he is quite articulate.

I would have touched it too :) We used to have those red buttons at out work saying do not press - plant shutdown malarkey and I became obsessed with those

Tuppence - hmm dont like him (well not my values) - but I watched a 10 minute interview with him on FOX-shit the other day and he was cohrrent and his defence of the orange one almost sincere.

Nasa replied that it was OK, and said in a statement that "procedures require the hardware to be cleaned before tiles are bonded to the spacecraft, so touching the surface is absolutely okay."

If the hardware was not OK to touch, it "would have had a protective cover over it", Nasa added.

Ahhh . . . it's good to know that the sign was just a joke then, and if any of us go to NASA we can ignore all their warning signs and there will be no repercussions.

I don't really give a shit if it was "OK" or not. Ignoring the sign and thinking he is above all that fits right in with the rest of the present dirt-filled administration.
