Republican attempts to replace Obamacare fail

Republican efforts to find a replacement for President Obama's healthcare system have collapsed.
Two Republican senators said they opposed their party's proposed alternative, making it impossible for the bill to pass in its current form.

The party has been divided on the issue, with moderates concerned about the effects on the most vulnerable.

President Trump has now called for repeal of Obamacare, so Republicans can start "from a clean slate".
That task falls to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

"Regretfully, it is now apparent that the effort to repeal and immediately replace the failure of Obamacare will not be successful," Mr McConnell said.

Two Republican senators, Mike Lee and Jerry Moran, said the new legislation did not go far enough in repealing Obamacare.

Mr Moran said "we should not put our stamp of approval on bad policy" while for Mr Lee, "in addition to not repealing all of the Obamacare taxes [the bill] doesn't go far enough in lowering premiums for middle class families; nor does it create enough free space from the most costly Obamacare regulations".

Two senators - Rand Paul and Susan Collins - had already opposed the bill. Mr Paul said the bill kept too much of the "ObamaCare taxes", while Ms Collins expressed concerns about cuts to Medicaid.

With the two new opponents, Republicans - who hold 52 seats - no longer have enough votes to pass the bill in the 100-member Senate.

Moderate Republicans had also said the bill would have harmed some of their vulnerable constituents.
The non-partisan Congressional Budgetary Office (CBO) found the bill would have stripped 22 million Americans of health insurance over the next decade.

On top of that, polls had shown Obamacare remained popular among Americans - a survey by the Washington Post and ABC News on Monday found more than twice as many people preferred Mr Obama's programme to the proposed alternative.

Over to the Colluders shitter account

We were let down by all of the Democrats and a few Republicans. Most Republicans were loyal, terrific & worked really hard. We will return!

As I have always said, let ObamaCare fail and then come together and do a great healthcare plan. Stay tuned!

ANother campaign promise denied.

WickedsDesire -> RE: Republican attempts to replace Obamacare fail (7/18/2017 5:15:26 AM)

Was it 6 years we are going to repeal it and they had nothing but their usual rhetoric

Trump - we have so many great things and stuff people havent even heard of yet - just trumps usual rhetoric to replace failing obamacare - well the lying cock womble campaigned on that didn't he to his mob

Then when they realised they had nothing they decided they would rush write it in secret in about a month - 12 senators ish.

If they replaced that without a doubt it would have ended his presidency and a few republican senate seats

It will be very difficult for right leaning people to replace compulsory insurance. Since the core of right is less government interference. Trump is somewhere in the middle really.

But it is not easy to convince staunch rightie that they should have anything like Obamacare at all.

Lucylastic -> RE: Republican attempts to replace Obamacare fail (7/18/2017 5:28:10 AM)

Trump has been all over the place, LOL he swore healthcare for all, repeal and replace, and he has achieved neither.

WickedsDesire -> RE: Republican attempts to replace Obamacare fail (7/18/2017 5:32:45 AM)

I am led to believe it was not compulsory - that was challenged in the supreme court or one of their district courts? Probably something to do with their first amendment.

Most of the right just want a bigger piece of the pie the Politicans. The average Trump & GOP voter is probably more reliant on Obamacare than those road blocking dems, ors it obstructionists. But they are compliant enough to believe they would be better off without Obamacare

Anyone more knowledgeable wanna chuck in 2 cents and check the above facts as I still havent woken up

Cock Womble Snr is big important man "health care is easy"

As I have always said, let ObamaCare fail and then come together and do a great healthcare plan. Stay tuned!

Damnit, there's a lot of room for improvement and 6 years of planning. Where's da damn bill?

Not in prison.
Which interests these twatwaffles a lot more than pretending they give a fuck about governing their country if they're voted in.
One good thing to come from the ascension and anointment of Donnie Dorko is that it's made it very clear that the republicans have nothing to offer, and just don't want the other lot in the white house. They're not offering alternatives, and probably couldn't if their lives depended on it, they're just bitching and moaning and shrieking like a six year old girl who's lost her dolly.

Well, there was six years of opposition and bitching. And strategy for more of the same.

Planning . . . not so much.

With only a very small majority, the Republicans in the House & Senate need more victories next year since Dems totally obstruct, no votes!
6:15 am - 18 Jul 2017

The Senate must go to a 51 vote majority instead of current 60 votes. Even parts of full Repeal need 60. 8 Dems control Senate. Crazy!
6:26 am - 18 Jul 2017

Over to you mnottertail
I know trump has no fuking clue what he is on about

But my question to you is for full repeal of handsome obamacare is could they have switched that to a simple majority? heh you try and help me with that mad shit all the time but i am toiling to understand when they can switch

1. Eg law legislation
2, In theory its an executive order from Obama anyway? he Couldnt even get that pass it due to all em Republican obstructionists

we will over small trifling details such as only 12 Republican jackals were privy to the new rushed botched legislation before they attempted to ram it thorough, and no input was sought from other Republicans nor em road block 46 (&2 ind) Dems. Nice of him to mention the two independents - does he even know they exist?

What are those 2 anyway?

As if the Dems didn't give us this mess in the first place [:D]

You are such an idiot

Musicmystery -> RE: Republican attempts to replace Obamacare fail (7/18/2017 12:36:38 PM)

Even a worse mess than that, their plan is.

Unable to pass it, they are.
