Xanda, son of Cecil the lion, 'killed by hunter' in Zimbabwe

Two years after Cecil the lion was killed by a trophy-hunter in Zimbabwe, prompting global outrage, his son may have met a similar sad end.

Xanda, a six-year-old lion with several young cubs, was reportedly shot on a trophy hunt.
He is said to have died outside the Hwange National Park in northern Zimbabwe.

The lion had been fitted with an electronic tracking collar by Oxford University researchers.

The BBC's Africa Correspondent, Andrew Harding, reports that at the age of six, Xanda was old enough to be legally targeted by big game hunters.

These individuals, many from the US, UK and South Africa, pay tens of thousands of pounds for the deadly pursuit - thereby funding the staff who protect other wildlife in the National Park. hmmm how fuking magnanimous

I miss Lady of the Loch i wont bore you idiots with that one.

Do you know what I hate worse than a gun nutter
Is a hunting gun nutter

Put the sick fuker in a ring with a lion and his bare arms and i will call that sport.

Zimbawbe has to decide which is more important. Money or protecting the lions.

African countries are usually very poor countries, and often use the money from licensing trophy hunts to pay for conservation

Without it would have no or very little conservation at all

So, they made their choice. They are taking the money.

Using money from hunters to foster conservation is actually a common practice. Here in the US the conservation foundation, Ducks Unlimited, receives a lot of funding from duck hunters.

Well, 'dayum,' . . .

Why can't these past-sell-date guys just use Rohypnol and a tazer and a few million dollars and an Amex Black Card like they use to obtain a trophy wife?

Guns can be used for sleep darts too, you know.

Do you actually eat what you shoot?

I can understand that perfectly, if so.

Even as being a 'vegan' for ten years, I still remember the seriously fat-laden duck and lamb as being the best animal food I ever enjoyed.

I don't know who in right mind would ever want to actually eat lion or bear.

Deer, I can understand.

Except not for now.

Five-ten years from now, who knows?

Life is full of changes.

Who ever is running the conservation land part is in the wrong!

I mean, the FACT that the Lions they are conserving can happily trot into the land of legal trophy killing! WTF!

Shouldn't they build high fences to prevent the protected Lions from crossing into legal hunting area!

Hillwilliam -> RE: Xanda, son of Cecil the lion, 'killed" (7/21/2017 4:10:04 AM)

Even in the US, game and nongame management is paid for by hunting and fishing license fees.
Hunters and fishermen pay for ALL of it.

Don't despair.

Think of it this way:

Plenty of fine ladies out there looking for "Specials."

I don't hunt at all. I was merely pointing out that hunters paying for conservation efforts is a common practice all over.

Lions are powerful animals, and they range over large areas. Any fence to separate them would need to be unusually strong and quite long. The cost of building such a fence could easily use up all available conservation funds, leaving none to actually care for the animals.
