New White House communications chief apologises to Trump In his first news conference, the new White House communications chief says sorry to his new boss, President Donald Trump, for calling him a "hack politician" in 2015.
Anthony Scaramucci put it down to political inexperience.

So, what do we know about the president's new mouthpiece?
Firstly, Anthony Scaramucci, 52, is a long-standing Trump supporter who has known the president for years.

A major Republican donor and founder of investment firm SkyBridge Capital, he served as an adviser on the presidential transition team.

Mr Scaramucci is currently a senior vice-president and chief strategy officer at the Export-Import Bank - the US government's export credit agency.

In January 2017, the Wall Street bigwig was linked to the role of director for the Office of Public Liaison - where he would have managed the administration's engagement with the US business and political communities.

The job failed to materialise due to complications over the sale of his stake in SkyBridge, which meant it would take months for him to pass conflict-of-interest checks.

Mr Scaramucci is nicknamed "The Mooch", except by former President George W Bush, who reportedly calls him "Gucci Scaramucci".
The well-groomed banker previously hosted a financial television show, Wall Street Week, on Fox Business.

He is the author of three books, entitled Hopping Over the Rabbit Hole: How Entrepreneurs Turn Failure Into Success; Goodbye Gordon Gekko: How to Find Your Fortune without Losing Your Soul; and The Little Book of Hedge Funds (Little Books. Big Profits).

He has also contributed to the Fox News Channel, and staunchly defended the president in TV appearances.

I thought Trump was draining the swamp - and he just appointed a money weasel as press mouthpiece. Even the one they call Bannon was against that, and nice to see Spicer grow a pair.

Mind you I would have admired him more if he stood up on the podium:

No, he's not replacing him. He was hired as the communications director, not press secretary, which is what Spicer is. But Spicer quit because scaramucchi was hired, so now they will have to find a new press secretary, or stick with Sanders.

There was something about Spicer that seemed to personify the whole nasty bumbling Trump administration perfectly.

Was it his cold mean eyes, his aggressive demeanour, the way he could insist that the most blatant untruths were the truth while playing a hostile crowd, his arrogant defence of the orange disaster's every stumble, the manner in which he seemed to be permanently spoiling for a fight as he appealed to the nation's lowest possible denominator ... all of which are hallmarks of this Administration.

Perhaps above all it was the amateurish delivery of a very unpolished message, a delivery that seemed to be saying "I don't give a f**k if you fake news merchants don't believe me, we won the election so F**K you! The truth is whatever we say is the f**king truth.", a message of obvious contempt for the media delivered to and for the base as he announced measure after measure that left the base worse off than ever before.

Spicer's nastiness was a direct reflection of his boss's nastiness, and so was a perfect choice to deliver the message he personified.
