it was his own fault for answering the door in the middle of the night.. no possible good could have come from that..
otoh... if he had stayed in bed, the cops would have broken the door down, he would have picked up his phone to call 911 and the cops would have shot him dead in his bed cuz he was (a) reaching for a "gun" (b) had a "gun" in his hand.. and his wifey would have been shot too cuz she was in bed next to him & not survived the barrage of bullets.. so maybe it was better he answered the door cuz at least it was just him & his dog dead & the wife & kiddies survived.. (to spend a large award from the inevitable lawsuit)...
