Termyn8or -> RE: What is the point of prayer? (7/28/2017 3:50:43 PM)

FR What's the purpose of religion in the first place ? We live in a supposedly advanced world here and should be well past that guy in the sky shit. But we aren't, why ? Well when you pray and succeed you give part of that credit to your god. You believe that what you have done pleases him. Now when you fail, you have something to blame it on. That you somehow did not please your god. You externalize your failures. To many, it is worth sharing credit for your successes. The psychology of huans makes them want to believe. Many have grown out of that. I do not believe that there is absolutely nothing after death, but I am damn sure nobody around here can tell about it. I think the universe is god in a way. And this god is not much of a communicator. I do not believe the Bible, I think it was written by a bunch of loons, and read by the really nuts. World created in a day. We measure days by the rotation of the Earth, so how long was a day before there was an Earth ? Assholes have it all distorted. First of all about abortion, there is something about "bitter waters" in there. And Onanism, jacking off ? Your god was not pissed off about that, it was that supposedly he wanted Onan to have a kid with some Woman. And Leviticus was off his rocker. These nuts gave us a book allowing us to misinterpret it to our heart's desire. And it is full of contradictions. Thou shalt not kill, but then I give you this land, all you have to do is kill all the people there. And Man shall not lay with Man, yet some are created with the desire to do so. What kind of joke is that ? I used to be quite against homosexuality, until a long talk with one. He sees a Woman he simply does not get turned on, but a Man he does. Well WTF do you want him to do about it ? I can't say there is no god, but I do not believe that book of bullshit. What's more, who decided which books go in there ? I read somewhere that there were five more books of Moses that explained the magic supposedly used by Moses, but they were determined to be too dangerous to include. What's more, in the old day people did not have Bibles, only the preachers did. I doubt they were actually forbidden, but in the old days it was quite and undertaking to publish anything. So people were also at the mercy of the preacher's interpretation of it. And look at the Koran. People says it says this, it says that, and it probably does. So pray for whatever you want. But even if your god exists, he might just say no. T^T
