No 10 says free movement ends when UK leaves EU Suggestions that freedom of movement will continue after the UK leaves the EU are wrong, Downing Street has said. On Friday, Chancellor Philip Hammond warned full controls could take "some time", prompting speculation free movement may continue in all but name after the UK leaves in March 2019. But amid claims of splits in cabinet, No 10 has moved to make clear free movement will end when the UK leaves. It said: "It would be wrong to suggest it... will continue as it is now." Downing Street's move followed days of uncertainty over future immigration policy during any transitional phase after Brexit. Downing Street also rejected the possibility of an "off-the-shelf" trade deal with the EU such as that enjoyed by Norway and other members of the European free trade association - which grants them access to the single market. The idea has been floated by Mr Hammond among others. Shakes his head and wanders off Any of you lot vote to leave?

I know and the £350 million - was that a week or day I cant quite remember smeared on the side of their battle bus? And what will become of London not that I particularly give a fuk about that place. Edinburgh is probably the second largest financial sector in the UK I probably dont give a fuk about that place either. However, people and souls I do care about. (Both of those cities voted to remain) That aside do you think they will ship all the UK immigrants back to the UK? - that lot were never mentioned either Anyway can the UK actually make anything or do we just prostitute out financial debt?

UK emigrants working in the EU were mentioned a lot, as a matter of fact, just not by the little englanders in the leave campaign. Though I think some of the Sun readers are now getting buyer's remorse over the fact that they'll no long be able to buy Euromillions tickets after Brexit is finalised...

Well duh, the dirty foreign types being in England was one of the main driving forces of the Brexit win. But they can all rest easy now. once again wogs will begin at Calais, rather than Manchester.

TM does not care about any expats or the 2 years schedule (one year wasted already ...) - the only ones who obviously do are the EU negotiators. The issue has been negotiated twice already, and always with no answer from the UK. The Tory policy these days is to waste the time and get the hardest brexit available automatically (UK on World Trade Organisation standards with the EU) and then blame the others.

I just can't watch the Muppets doing the UK negotiation failing to even guarantee citizenship to all EU citizens currently living in the UK. Let's get all our pensioners back from the Costa Brava with all their chronic diseases and send all our young productive EU citizens away. Cut off our non-UK EU citizens who pay more tax on average than UK natives and swap them out for people who pay less tax and receive more benefits. Better control of immigration? We've been able to control non-EU immigration for years. We have no-one else to blame. The only immigration we have been open to is the immigration from Europe which has increased our income and our tax take. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. Have control over our own laws? We practically wrote the laws that are the basis of the European Court systems, and get more judgements in our favour than most EU countries Oh and let's mess about with our financial centres while our banks rush to relocate to Frankfurt, Paris and Amsterdam, taking a huge proportion of our invisible trade with them and lots of highly paid workers who pay lots of tax. No offence to the US, Australia, New Zealand but trade deals with those countries will not even nearly make up for the lack of a trade deal with Europe. They are playing with our lives and livelihoods and have no idea what they are doing. And our government is supposed to be run by the party who says they understand business.
