As the Mooch's scalp hit the floor, he became the 12 th major figure of the Trump Administration to be sacked or resign in the 6 months that the US has laboured under Trump's regime. Trump tweeted "A great day the White House", though whether this reflected his own relief at seeing the end of the Mooch, or it is another indication of the distance between Trump and reality as you and I experience it is not clear at this stage. The sacking follows a week of disasters for Trump which have been widely derided as the worst week for a President in living memory.

The chaos within the White House is a backdrop to 6 months without a single major piece of legislation being passed, the ongoing 'Repeal Obamacare' fiasco, fracturing relations with the GOP Congress, and increasing disenchantment with Trump nationally and internationally. In the background but never far from another new damaging headline looms multiple investigations into possible collusion with Russia, obstruction of justice and other matters. The US's adversaries are making gains with every day as the world ignores Trump's blustering and threats.

There appears to be little prospect of change from within the White House as the heads roll and the tweets continue to describe a fantasy world that only Trump can access. How much longer can things continue like this? How long before the GOP cuts its losses and distances itself from the orange disaster? Will it take a wipe out at the mid-terms to bring it to its senses? How much damage with be done to the US, both nationally and internationally, before Trumps incompetent regime is replaced?

Who prophesied Scaramucci out as Trump media chief?

In his head, I believe he DOES think "It's a great day at the White House".

I think it is a "great day" for him, as long as he is President.

I fully believe he could keep this up for 3.5 more years, and say it was a great run.

He wants one thing -- adulation.

He doesn't care about sincerely, deservedness, or even accuracy. Surface optics is everything to this guy.

Yes. I think you are correct. Trump is all about Trump, and nothing else. His gigantic fragile ego devours adulation in exactly the same way as a junkie devours junk (and for similar reasons too).

That such a shallow venal grifter has achieved high office suggests some very real problems with American democracy, and the two party system that facilitated Trump capturing the Presidency. Any system that allows a con man like Trump to rise to the top must be flawed.

Yet it is difficult to devise a way of ensuring that this outcome is not replicated without taking the democracy out of democracy. Any ideas ....???

I think it is a quite effective way to prevent from causing more serious damage.

Hiring and firing seems to keep him busy enough on his new playground.

Excellent point. And, if we are only concerned with the internal workings of the USA, it would be a telling point.

Unfortunately, there's a whole other world beyond the borders of Trump's playground/the USA. And there are some rather nasty people taking advantage of Trump's preoccupation with his own playground and his own role in that playground.

For instance, the North Koreans are using the Trump-created vacuum in international affairs to launch rocket after rocket testing, further developing and fine tuning their arsenal which now includes ICBMs. Putin is using the vacuum to solidify his hold on parts of the Ukraine he has seized. Israel is using the vacuum to increase its ethnic cleansing of the West Bank. The Saudis are bombing Yemen into the stone age and bullying Qatar .... the list goes on.

The world needs a competent person leading the USA, not the self obsessed venal buffoon currently occupying the White House.

I share your worries and concerns but I do not see any competence of the kind you mentioned there. So I fear the best the rest of the world can do is ignore the fools and follies and find other ways to deal with the problems you mentioned (and the others to come).

^ this.

Both the President of Mexico and the US Boys Scouts have denied claims by Trump that they had called him to compliment him.

"Donald Trump had said that Mexico’s president ‘complimented’ him on fewer border crossings and a Scouts head lauded his ‘greatest speech ever’
The president of Mexico and the Boy Scouts have refuted Donald Trump’s claims that he received calls from them praising his immigration policies and speech-making abilities.
On Monday, Trump claimed that Mexico’s president, Enrique Peña Nieto, had given him “the ultimate compliment” by phoning to say fewer people were crossing the US-Mexico border.
Last week, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Trump claimed the “head of the Boy Scouts” had called him to describe his speech at their national jamboree “the greatest speech that was ever made to them”.
But on Wednesday Peña Nieto and the Boy Scouts said they had not made those calls to the president."

This can be seen as direct evidence of a delusional state of mind. His need for constant ego gratification leads him to invent stupid, easily disproved lies (Remember the crowd figures at his inauguration kerfuffle?) These childish outbursts are the product of an emotionally retarded needy man-child.

It's scary to think that this person is in charge of the world's most destructive military arsenal ever ...

maybe he's just trying to bolster future ratings and interest in his reality show after he's out of office....(working title) 'Welcome Aboard.....You're Fired' (in lieu of The Apprentice)
