And here was me about to ask what a RINO was

The really weird thing about the whole RINO tag is that since it was coined (or possibly co-opted, but I don't remember hearing that acronym being used before then) by George II's apologists is that it's used more or less exclusively by people who have no idea what values "their" party is supposed to represent to diss paleocons who are into the sort of thing that the republican party is meant to stand for. As soon as a paleocon republican even mentions fiscal conservatism or a reduction in the scale and authority of the government* the denialicans, neocons and religious right are all: "RINO! RINO! RINO!
It'd be funny if it wasn't so fucking pathetic.

*(Which are only ever open to discussion for most of the "republicans" when they can be used to have a go at a democrat president)

No, it's a term introduced by the first Gingrich wing then the Tea Party for anyone willing to compromise to get things done. All or nothing ideology! And it created the current mess in large part. (The Drive to Oligarchy from both major parties created the rest).

Unfortunately, governance is making choices. The RINOs were governors (in the sense of the word). The rest are dogmatic ideologues.

It's unsustainable, but the system hasn't crashed yet, so the ideologues (and the oligarchies) double down, increasing the problem.

And viola! Trump.

Hilaruious to see a pussyhat moron pretend he can redefine words conservatives coin, and change their meaning

McSame is a RINO.

Refused to hit Obama back in his presidential campaign against him, essentially bowed out of the campaign and handed Obama the presidency

More recently, campaigned or repealing Obamacare

Promised again and again that he would vote to repeal

Then at crunch time he once again showed his true colors and voted with the pussyhats

According to Wiki the term (rather than acronym) was first used in 1912 during the spat between Roosevelt and Taft, and I'm positive I heard it being used about McCain back in 2000 when he might still have been electable.
No question that Gringich and his deplorables thoroughly co-opted the term to make the teabaggers feel important, though.

Republican In Name Only, which is a title that fits the lunatic rightwing fringe of the party who are calling everybody else in the GOP that an awful lot better than most of the paleocons they're using it to describe.
William Howard Taft was the 27th president of the States, between Roosevelt 1 and Wilson.

Anyway -- side question . . .

What will it take to get back to effective governance?

Periodically I say:
1. I suffer severe chronic fatigue
2. I take no head medication – and yet if i did i would not be ashamed
3. I am apparent, are any of you?

Only those with an identity and reality may stand beside me.

Jeff Flake is mostly voting to support the Trump agenda except for the repeal of the ACA.
