Trump Will Likely Win Reelection in 2020
Single-term presidents largely underscore the incumbency norm.



Most Americans don't like Donald Trump.

Trump will most likely be reelected in 2020.

How can both of these statements be true? Here's how:

Even when people are unhappy with a state of affairs, they are usually disinclined to change it. In my area of research, the cognitive and behavioral sciences, this is known as the "default effect."

I tend to agree. The press has consistently underestimated Trump's staying power.
Also, I never thought either George H W Bush or Bill Clinton would be re-elected, but apparently I was overestimating the intelligence of Americans at large.
