The numbers of Filipinos murdered under Duterte's so-called war on drugs is upwards of 5,000 (this is a best guesstimate, no reliable and/or accurate figures are available as far as I could tell). Most of those killed have been killed by the police, with Duterte's explicit approval. There have been allegations that Duterte was personally involved in some murders, and that he personally organised and directed execution squads while he was Mayor of Davao. It is alleged but not proven that those killed are either drug dealers or users. It is also alleged that the police are using the so-called war on drugs to eliminate the competition, protecting their own lucrative involvement in the drug trade, and anyone else they happen to dislike for whatever reason. Under Duterte, the rule of law has been abandoned and replaced by the police acting as judge, jury and executioners. Duterte himself is erratic, impulsive, prone to making policy declarations on the run - think a murderous version of Trump and you won't be far off the mark. Why this murderous thug appeals to anyone who believes in democracy and the rule of law remains a mystery to me.

Duterte has been a murderous thug for years, both by his own hand and by encouraging others. You choose to ignore this. He didn't improve the crime rate in Davao and all the signs are that he hasn't in the Philippines as a whole. Just a few examples of the quality of the man - he has had journalists murdered, has family links with the MILF and MNLF, and has publicly stated that he should have been first to rape a murdered gang rape victim because she was so attractive when he saw her dead body. We have been here before, haven't we in a number of posts in a previous thread? But on second thoughts Greta, I thought you were opposed to the state providing free services...?

Oh and you liked his hard line against Muslims - but then half his family is Muslim and he has links to the main Muslim freedom fighter organisations who want to set up an Islamic State within the Pilipinas. That doesn't sound like the sort of stuff you would support either....
