Husband's tribute to his 'curvy' wife sparks backlash

A husband's Instagram post about loving his wife's "curvy" size has sparked a backlash online about body image and feminism.

American entrepreneur Robbie Tripp, who describes himself as "husband to a curvy goddess", posted a photograph of him and his wife, explaining in a popular post that becoming a feminist taught him that "curvy" women could be sexy.

"I love this woman and her curvy body. As a teenager, I was often teased by my friends for my attraction to girls on the thicker side," he wrote.

"As I became a man and started to educate myself on issues such as feminism and how the media marginalizes women by portraying a very narrow and very specific standard of beauty (thin, tall, lean), I realised how many men have bought into that lie."

"For me, there is nothing sexier than this woman here: thick thighs, big booty, cute little side roll etc."

Hah bet you all thought this was one of respectmans - nay I say.

Anyway I need to think about this one.
Is he saying he is a feminist - or been programmed by the feminists cults.
Or to be a feminists you have to be curvy, but not fat, or something.
Or, its okay for a beached whale to love a thin stickman but not the other way around

What the fuk is he trying to say - anyway, a knitting channel would be a good thing I feel..and a shoe channel

I think he's just a fucking wanker. (Did I use that correctly?) He wants to be applauded for finding a certain type of woman attractive. Frankly, I think all that does is make it seem like she should be appreciative of his attention. He's an idiot.

I didn't understand a lot of that -all of that to be precise. And he came out with that tit speech. Wanker seems fair comment.

What do you think he should have said?

But it is absolutely true that men get shamed for loving less than perfect model figures too. At least around here where size 0 would be like 90% of the women and what is normal, if you love an overweight figure, you are gonna be the butt of jokes.

Takes alot of guts to date an overweight women. It would be like the walk of shame on the streets beside her.

I am just saying the kind of mean comments and dirty looks the man would have to endure on the streets over here. It's really not an easy thing to do.

I think I understand what he is saying. It's not about making himself feel good. But in a way, making his wife feel good and feeling proud of her imperfect body.

It's standing up to not loving what is traditionally the preferred body type.

So in a country if men generally like curvier and fleshier women. And if a man likes skinny, and is proud of her, that will be super cool too. To be strong enough to stand up and celebrate and say, my standard of beauty is not the taste of majority but it is okay to have different standards of beauty.

I think the only part he went wrong is misusing the word "feminism". I don't think Feminism has anything to do with liking shapes and sizes that is not the typical sort after.

Feminism is just about equal rights, but body shapes and sizes is a personal sexual preference.

There is nothing wrong with loving skinny. Nothing wrong with loving chubby. It depends on what is your taste.

Feels like majority of the annoyed comments were from people who were either bigger than her or sized like her, that felt offended that, her figure isn't considered normal in his world.

But what-ever is normal is all perception of whatever different universe we live in. Her figure is definitely considered obese in my world and perception of the men in my world. And generally will not be sought after.

But she does have a pretty face.

I think in my world where she is an abnormality. This post is seen as brave, I mean, for the man. And there are alot of closet chubby lovers out there who can't come out. Because of fear of being mocked.

Interesting.

As I said, I can show a picture of Beyonce and some men call her fat and some call her perfect.

Different men, different perception.

But the men who perceive her as overweight tend to be Asian men of oriental origins.

I also don't know what is the correlation. I feel like my observation universally. Darker skin men, like South Indians and Africans, tend to prefer fleshy.

He's totally missed the point of feminism, gee whiz. While it's good he isn't buying into the Hollywood/media programming of males to believe thin women are sexy, he's STILL OBJECTIFYING HER by seeing her as a BODY, not as a PERSON. His message should have been, "It doesn't matter if a person is skinny or pillowy" (that all can change over time).

"Sexy" is just pretty wrapping paper, advertising to lure you in. Often what you end up with is a disappointment, and that's why so many people hop from one relationship to another, never being satisfied. What ultimately makes a person a good match (a "keeper") is having common interests and a personality that harmonizes with your own.

No, he's just a fucking wanker - that's honestly the word that comes to my mind even though I never say it. Everybody who loves anybody loves someone who is not exactly perfect in every way in everyone's eyes. He doesn't deserve any pats on the back for "learning" that he can be attracted to whomever he's attracted to. He's self-aggrandising. I put something like this right up there with people who call themselves an empath or primal. He's childishly looking for applause for living the way rest of the adults do every day.
