Why don't they just pass a bill that allows health insurance to be bought across state lines? That's it. Nothing else.

what good does that do? I have owned State Farm car insurance which operates across state lines, and I have owned it in MN, NY, CA, and MA, and it was a different price in every case, its based on the locale and costs and incidents there. The same with Health Insurance, wouldnt change a thing, except you would be fucking with absolutely claimed states rights.

Many reasons why not, starting with circumvention of state laws. Some states have low rates because their insurance sucks. Selling this in states that better regulate insurance is not a good idea.

FR, What do you think would happen if the Federal Government offered catastrophic care coverage for every US Citizen? Catastrophic care coverage is, usually, much cheaper, premium-wise, so the Feds pick up the tab after a specified $$ level.

Well if the cheapest plan was some type of catestrophic plan, the worse thing that could happen is the individual would end up owing the deductible.

Isn't licensing professionals to give some sort of backing that the person is what he claims to be? BTW, insurance companies are exempt from antitrust laws. They made a deal IIRC 1945 federal act and in return, they couldn't boycott.

The cheapest plans were the ones where you found out you weren't covered for it and had your insurance cancelled just when you needed it.

Insurance companies are only part of the equation. The other parts are providers and big pharma. Whether a plan is public or private, it needs a better funding model, than fee-for-service.

Too many people wanting a piece of the pie :( USA spends more of its GDP on healthcare than any other nation, by a mile. A i say, from time to time, Insurance companies top 10ish make 10 billion pa Big pharma 100billion pa - this doesn't include all the dosh they farm (manipulate) out for RD, to their subsidiaries etc Was/is there another vote? - I seem to have forgotten/lost track - news is relatively boring when Comrade Bone Spurs is shacked up in one of his shanty towns. German model is good MrRodgers - your point I presume.
