According to the New York Times and the Amazon Post, team Clinton / Mueller is leaking like a sieve. Nothing quite like timely release of weeks-old "news" to put Russia back in the front pages, rather than the President's tough and effective handling of the Korean situation:

Mattis warns North Korea to stop actions that would 'lead to end of regime'

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis on Wednesday told North Korea it must stop any action that would "lead to the end of its regime" and "stand down" in its pursuit of nuclear weapons.

These are some of strongest comments Mattis has made on North Korea. In the past he has said that the United States can respond to North Korea, but any military solution would be "tragic on an unbelievable scale."

"The DPRK must choose to stop isolating itself and stand down its pursuit of nuclear weapons," Mattis said in a statement. DPRK is short for the North's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

"The DPRK should cease any consideration of actions that would lead to the end of its regime and the destruction of its people," Mattis said.

"The DPRK regime's actions will continue to be grossly overmatched by ours and would lose any arms race or conflict it initiates," he added.

Mattis added that while the State Department was making diplomatic efforts, the United States and its allies have the most "precise, rehearsed and robust defensive and offensive capabilities on Earth."

Despite the statement by Mattis, U.S officials say that for now, additional assets have not been moved to the region and the threat assessment has not changed.

The United States has 28,500 troops in South Korea to guard against the North Korean threat. Japan hosts around 54,000 U.S. military personnel, the U.S. Department of Defense says, and tens of thousands of Americans work in both countries.

I remember those days fondly. It was an amazing deal. We had a completely frozen North Korean nuclear program. Inspectors ONSITE to verify it. Fuel rods under lock and key and under round the clock surveillance.


Bush came in and scrapped the deal. The inspectors were ousted. Now we're dealing with a nuclear-capable North Korea.


We already covered Bush's huge gift to Iran in the other thread worth many billions of dollars annually, (which BTW, some of that money went to buy North Korean missile technology).

In this thread, we get to cover Bush's huge gift to North Korea.


Both the Ayatollah and Kim Jong Un thank GWB every day.


I laugh so hard at the spin of right-wing media on this issue. I watched Sean Hannity cover the talking points last night. It's all over the right-wing echo chamber.

They completely leave out the details of the frozen program, the inspectors, and fuel rods.

I'm sure you picked this up from Hannity, or one of the three dozen right-wing sites without knowing any of the details.

Oh... and BTW. Thanks to Obama... The Haliburton-built Iranian nuclear plan in Arak is now covered over in concrete.

I mean Hillary of all people was not going after the bankers and just like the R's, would have hired all of the bankers she needed. (in Jan of 09, Obama met with his prospective treasury and financial cabinet and sub-cabinet, 17 people, all of which should have been under subpoena)

Hillary would have kept up the drone war.

Hillary would have kept us in TPP.

Hillary would have been the status quo, you know about 5 times better than than W did and maybe a little better than Obama did.

People actually think any president is really going to change anything are by now...truly fooling themselves.

What has Trump done to change the status quo, that which made up the establishment or that which created the swamp he was going to clean out ?

The banks got what want, the oil cos. got what they want, healthcare turned into $600-$800 billion tax cut to throw millions off insurance. (depending upon who you read)

He's deregulated clean air and water.

He's throwing an additional Billion $/week at the pentagon so the MIC gets $52 billion more of what they want.

If he 'reforms taxes' meaning cut them, then he'll (and his repub cohort) raise the yearly deficit and the total debt...just what the bankers want.

The fed judges too which was way too easy especially given a repub senate. No changes however

.....ALL of what Trump has done is right out Republican govt. 101...their playbook for 40 years.

.....and he's got those who fell for his con...still conned.

Oh and in so far as Korea, What MJ wrote and more very clear evidence that W and the 'why-be-a-superpower-and-not-use-it'...neocans wanted a good excuse for war. Easy, let make them become a nuclear threat.

Kinkroids, as we type, the US is renewing and updating its nuclear arsenal including as I've also read, $1 trillion in new small 'tactical' nukes. Why ?
