The plot of 1984 keeps on playing out...
http://www.opednews.com/articles/genera_evelyn_p_060721_teenscreen___prescri.htm

Is reacting to life, being a nonmonotonic zomby a problem? Are you supposed to be crammed, cowed, drugged and shamed into the average of normalcy from birth onwards?

Is this drugging to normality an oxymoron to anyone else? It seems to me, that a drugged and catergorized to normal populace is a totalitarian and consumer capitalists dream. Drugged and barraged with media. Suggestable sheep to the Nth degree.

You know, you and I rarely agree... but this I totally agree with! All they are doing is drugging the youth right out of our kids today. For what ever reason, the sheep herders seem to think that the youth of America shouldn't go through the ups and downs of emotionaly growth. They shouldn't be made to face decisions and weigh facts and fiction. And yeah, I place a lot of the blame on the parents that just go along with it.

As an example, my youngest, a boy, was once diagnosed as schizo... you know why? I was there... the shrink asked him if he ever heard voices in his head? (Keep in mind this was in the third grade) my son said "Yeah", the shrink asked what the voices said... he replied "Michael".... Have you ever been walking around someplace and was just positive you heard someone hollar your name?? That's what he was talking about... well, the shrink turned to me and said... he's schizo and wanted to drug him. That quick, that simple. I said no. No way in hell was my kid gonna be drugged over something like that! And he wasn't then, and never was.

Unfortunately now days there isn't that much of a choice, if the teachers pitch a big enough fit then you have to either drug (medicate) your child or home school them. It's just like you said, they are trying to breed easily led sheep that won't question what happens around or to them.

This is the result when you let professionals run society, it is in their interests to find a problem, even if there isn't one there. I have a couple of friends who have had over 60 years of experience in mental health work and they have both come separately to the same conclusions, it is the professionals that need treatment.

The larger problem is an inability of modern society to accomodate difference even though contemporary society likes to think it is more tolerant that previous generations but I doubt it is. Difference in today's society is often intepreted as a mental health issue. If someone is not seen as acting normal and they are not endangering themselves or anyone else nor suffering mental angst, they should be allowed to get on with their lives.

Very VERYworrying stuff indeed!!!

My male unmentionable's teacher pushed and pushed to get us to put him on ritalin, We did, sort of .
We started him on the pills, half dosage for a week, and then stopped. Two weeks later his teacher was praising his behaviour and saying what a HUGE difference there was in him. Then we let her know that he had not been on the drug at all except for the very first week, and then only 1/2-pill each day. She shut up, and more importantly the principle no longer accepts that teacher's word that a child needs drugging (Yay for us!!! Sensible parents: 1, Pill-pushing education system: 1,330,000)
Either there is something in the water, or these drugs are being over-prescribed, these days it seems like nearly every kid has some disorder or other, its almost as if the parents are competing....My Johnny is more fucked in the head than your Sally.
I am happy that this is one thing that my ex and I have always agreed on, that we strive to medicate our offspring as little as possible.

Is this run by Dr. Mengele?  This is very scary and very sad.  Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

The new coined word I've heard is "sheeple" when it comes to those that follow blindly.

speaking as an ex-psych nurse, with extensive experience in PRU's (pupil referral units, places where kids who have been expelled from so many schools they're deemed unteachable under normal circumstances), i find this reliance on drug therapy at best lazy and at worst an abomination. While sometimes we all may need a drug to get us over a bad time, the blanket prescription of these things only serves to keep drug company's shareholders happy. Who funds teenscreen?

I used to be a mental health professional.. until I walked out one day... because my co-workers were crazier than our clients!

This ties into other threads in discussion today -

politics, big business (drug companies and profit), Gov't, Bush, the conservative right wing, ....
and the mass produced mediocrity of the media influencing those without independant thought.

PS damn. i am supposed to be expressing only a single aspect of my nature-  a good girl, a nice, quiet, unopinionated swweeet lil subby :(
Forgive me

I can't condemn all mental health practitioners. You can interpret anything you are taught and trained in to your own ends. Even hard science can be interpreted in very fuzzy ways and used to promote agendas. But this regime seems designed completely to feed a system of people and corporations with victims.

The fact that they use an opt out consent form is a part of the scam. People are less likely to formally fill out and submit a no response. Those too lazy to bother, automatically say yes to offering up their kids for this abomination.

I don't have kids. But I urge everyone to spread the word to other parents on this scheme. It is disgusting.

Most public school systems here in the US have to send notice and get parental approval for things like this.  (at least in the areas I've lived)  So I would say alot of it falls back to the parents.  WAY to many parents take what the schools do and say as the word of God.  It's the Adults that need to wake up and question.
~oh boy have the public school systems hated me!~
