I wonder if they can spot a missile leaving North Korea or the U.S. or one of her allies/satraps ? And can they tell what direction it's heading ? I also wonder if the people who fired it really know that it will go where it's supposed to go ?

In western countries or any country with homes that are not high rise, every home should build a underground bomb shelter beneath their home, with can food supplies to last at least 1 or 2 years. They just might survive the nuclear attack.

There should be that entire country alarm system, siren ringing that everyone can hear and get warned. We got that! Which signals to everyone to check their social media, news or whatever, basically these days, it's easier to get instant info, that will give them enough time to find an underground to hide. It would be chaos. But I don't know if US conducts preparation exercises. In Singapore, prior to the government installing bomb shelters in each individual unit. We had preparation exercises so that everyone knows where is their nearest underground shelter. I don't know why we are always practicing for the event of a war as IF one is impending to drop on us soon, but that's what we seem to keep doing here.

food for 2 years ???? Would you like to figure out the storage space you would need ? As well as the cost of said food up front ? Then you have uncontaminated water for 2 years. Power for 2 years would need generators, so fuel for 2 years. Clothes for 2 years maybe. Books, DVDs, CD's etc to keep the minds occupied. Somewhere to dispose of 2 years effluent of one kind and another. You would need a place the size of Windsor Castle but built about 2 miles underground. Be realistic Greta

If that is too costly, gotta make do with less and hope for best. Whatever suits the budget.

Greta, check what speed Mach20 is in KPH and then tell me how long it would take a missile entering Singaporean airspace, to actually strike ground zero. Here's a hint..................it's something over 24,000 KPH

Of course, we have no idea if these bomb shelters will survive the high drop. Personally, I think people needs to pad the walls. Externally, they should be shock proof and can survive a drop. The bomb shelters are totally useless. They are there to give the population a ( false) sense of security and to let them think that they ( The government) are actually doing something that will help. When one of those things comes whistling down your throat, No pissy little personal bomb shelter is gonna help.

The reason governments want everyone in an underground bomb shelter is so that any survivors won't have to spend all their energy cleaning up and burying bodies. If everyone dies quietly buried in their underground shelter it will also serve to prevent pandemic disease that normally follows mass deaths.

you probably hit the nail square on the head there MakeM3Urs.......................Many of those actually IN government won't survive either, which can only be a good thing. What did Einstein say ?..................If the next war is fought with atom bombs and missiles, the one after will be fought with rocks and clubs.......................which brings me to a point I had overlooked; namely the effect of all those EMP's on world communications. Back to the Dark Ages I guess.

the other great thing about underground shelters is that the survivors ( if there are any) know that if they dig down where the shelters are, there is fair chance they may find some food that's not too badly contaminated. NO, not the bodies but food that may have been put in there for later use, although there again, if you're hungry enough, human flesh is as good as any other I suppose.

Well desperate people in desperate situation do what they need to do to survive. There are true stories about people stranded in snow mountainous areas that had to eat their comrades who froze to death to survive. Not gonna judge them on human flesh eating if desperation comes, the survival instinct just kicks in. I bet Kim didn't get his people to build bomb shelters underground to prepare. He doesn't care if they all die. Definitely his mentality is, if he is dying, everyone is dying with him.

Well Peon, I have to agree and shelters that are NOT going to provide shelter against the type of attack we are discussing, really have no other use than as ready-dug-graves, do they ? That shelter needs to be deeper than most private persons can afford to dig, be bigger than most people can afford to own or build and be stored with more of every type of provision than most people can afford. I used to be a cook on the ships and saw stores coming on board to last 47 guys 7 weeks. I am trying to multiply that up and down for the amount of stores to last a family of four for at least two years....................The amount of space needed and the cost of the whole shebang. Like I told greta.................a place about the size of Windsor Castle, a couple of miles underground and filled to capacity, might suffice. Anybody want to try the math on that ? smile

I remember visiting Holy Loch in Scotland, the site of a US submarine base, and during the Cold War a primary target for Russian nukes. When we asked the locals if they had been concerned that they were on the front line of any nuclear war, they were pretty sanguine about it. They thought that they would perish in the first minutes of a nuclear conflict, so they wouldn't have to hang around slowly dying of radiation poisoning amid the ruins of the world they once knew. That's one way of looking at it ... I suppose ...
