Has anyone noticed that Trump's hair seems to screw up every lens and defy any photographic process?

I's all a blur. I worked mostly sound back in the day, but I got a few gigs running a video cam here and there, but I've never seen anything like this, and the big news organizations have 5X better gear than I or my employers ever had.

It's an effing blur, anytime you see it. The hair immediately unfocuses or distorts any lens or camera it comes across, on it's own.

It's uncanny.

"Uncanny" is probably the most correct word you could use. It's an alien life form that doesn't register properly on our recording media due to its being slightly out of phase with everything else in this part of the universe.

Alt left trash will never have meaningful facts or any kind of logic on their side, they can never win a legitimate political debate... But they will always have their fallacies

FIFY?

I haven't noticed his hair, other than it is looking less bleached blond, but he does seem to have toned down the spray on tan.

He has taken on the aged, weight of the world look all American Presidents get after being in office a while.
I wouldn't want the job.

Probably the weird texture of his hair plays tricks with auto focus. I wonder if the same blurry effect occurs with "old style" manual lenses and 35mm film. Is there a way to find out what individual press photographers are using?

One would think there might be, if one digs deep enough on the interwebs.

My bailiwick was sound, so I found out, e.g., that Neumann had to sift through 10 already excellent and well regarded Telefunken AC701 subminiature triodes to get a single one quiet enough to use in their M 49 and M 50 microphones.

I can't even remember what I was reading about at the time, more than a year ago, but some guy was overjoyed by his new Nikon, and going on about the lens, etc.

I remember when I worked sports or corporate events that some of these guys and gals had monster lenses, but that's all I know about it.

If you want to know anything about classic RCA 44BX ribbon microphones or the modern day 44C, I could bore you all day.

But my experience is that nobody cares about the sound guy, only about pics of Kim Lardassian.

Nobody knows . . .

Do smudges the news services use for their websites even get a credit? The photography might be work for hire for a flat fee, rather than anything involving a credit and possible royalties for the image. I think that's how the Gettyimages site works, isn't it?

Not sure about that, but the various contractual contrivances you allude to sound about right. But yes, I think that's how Getty Images works. I'm sure their contributors are not on the low end of the pay scale, though.

At the same time, I think that the biggest sports and news media put the photographer's name to it by way of giving the publication itself credit.

BTW, as a standup British citizen, you should know about this:

The engineered-for-BBC STC (Standard Telephone and Cable) 4038 ribbon microphone, produced from 1960s onward as the Coles 4038, was used as the single mic overhead for Ringo's and John Bonham's drum kits for many of their recordings.

I knew I'd find a way to bore the shit out of somebody before the day was out.

Aren't those the microphones Liam Whatsisface who produced Elephant for the White Stripes is obsessed with? He makes a pretty big thing about not having any gear manufactured this side of 1965 in his recording studio.

The furry alien being controlling Trump's mind is constantly in rapid motion, swirling about and never sitting still long enough for anything but a high speed camera to focus on. The sort used to capture photos of bullets striking glass that take thousands of frames per second. Regular studio and field cameras don't have a chance. The hair appears motionless to humans because the furball alien uses mind control tricks that don't work on cameras. 😁

According to wiki, Jack White produced that album, though it's possible Liam did the engineering (did the tracking on the soundboard).

In any case, yes, there are a number of folks in that realm who find that the easiest way to get the sound they want for artistic purpose is to use some of the old mics and ancient outboard mic preamps, especially from RCA or Universal Audio or Telefunken.

S t e v e A l b i n i in the US (in Chicago) had a punk band and now runs a studio, recording most of it with tape machines and ancient mics and outboards and tube compressors.

The Fairchild 660 (mono) and 670 (stereo) limiter/compressor did a lot of Sinatra and Elvis and a bunch of everything else for mastering (incl. mastering for Led Zep III) and ahead of the cutting lathe for original laquers, and makes older studio guys do the "I am not worthy" wave.

But let it be known; the Neumann original M 49 and M 50 and U 47/48 microphones manufactured eons ago are used to this day for their unparalleled clarity and tonal correctness. Likewise the AKG ELA M 250, if you can find a good one.

The U 47 offered cardioid (unidirecrional) and omnidirectional patterns.

The U 48 had figure 8 (bi-direcctional) and omni patterns.

So when you see the old pics of JL and Macca yelling into each other's face with a mic between them, it was the U 48, that often being used in their solo singing anyway.
