Hill, while they praise their patron saint of conservatism, there is not a republican today that even comes close to supporting the beliefs and goals Ronald Reagan had for this country. Where President Reagan had a clear and obvious enemy to point to, i.e the Soviet Union, he never made the claim that all citizens of the Soviet Union were communists or the enemy. Where Reagan wanted to bring back American industry and help the American workers, the present Republican party is doing nothing to keep jobs from leaving the country. Where Reagan had a plan, flawed as it was, he still pushed to accomplish what he saw needed to be done, again the present republican party has no plan except to point to people and scream they are the evil that is destroying the US. Where Reagan had the respect of the democrats, even if they did not agree with him, he was able to work compromises that got things done. Hell, I voted for Reagan in the first presidential election I could legally vote in, and then voted for him again on his second run. I did not agree with everything he did, thought he was a bad actor, but he at least could get something from people who were opposed to him politically. He did not make it a habit of blaming liberals for his failures, but he was right on one thing, quote:
The President said ''the central political error of our time'' was the Democrats' view that ''government and bureaucracy'' was ''the primary vehicle for social change.'' It is not the government's function to bail out or give hand outs, it is the government's function to give its citizens the tools to get on their feet. A welfare state does no one any good. Urban renewal programs have not saved our cities, look at Detroit, and every other major city in the US. The people in those cities need to want to rebuild, rededicate, renew them. The 'urban renewal grants' did not accomplish that. Forget grants, no one appreciates money, or anything freely given. Loans that have to be repaid, either in sweat equity or in cash is appreciated. I have said before, people coming to this country illegally that want to stay, give em the option to join the military, let em earn their citizenship. People screaming they have no way out of the inner city ghettos, jeez a lot of em got out after either being drafted or enlisting, and made something of themselves.\ Trump wants to rebuild American Infrastructure, fine, great, wonderful. There is something that will create jobs. Someone claims they have no choice but food stamps and welfare, fine put em to work on a high way project, rebuilding a dam, or levees. They work, earn a fair income and maybe learn a trade. College students scream about student loans, okay, get a degree and put it to civil service for four years to pay back the federal money you borrowed. Trump can actually do all that, and he can use the failed liberal programs as an incentive to get the dems on board, simply pointing out the government cannot afford to keep bleeding money that is really not accomplishing anything. Reagan got things done because he appealed to the largest group of voters in the country, the moderates. If President Trump would stop with the bullshit appealing to the die hard conservatives and pissing off everyone else in the process, I would be the first to throw a Trump for Sainthood rally. Hell, if any politician would do it, I would support them. As it stands now, we elect extremists. Left or right, doesnt matter, but as long as the extreme left or right are the ones getting elected, the country is fucked. Fuck the political parties, and find people who know what needs to be done, not afraid to compromise and meet in the middle and we will make America great again.
