Very interesting. This South Indian dude didn't have the sufficient grades to get in. So....., he knows that there are affirmative action for African Americans and the standards are lower. So he pretended to be a African American and with his way below acceptable grades. He got accepted.
And also he was saying, that in Universities, it's easy to claim to be a minority by simply claiming an ancestor in your family line is a minority race, despite them looking perfectly white. Many fairer students got in this way.
And they go by whatever race you put on your own application form. No verification whatsoever.
What a crazy system.
In order to claim Native American you have to be a registered member of a Tribe. Other than that it's pretty much just what ever you claim. I know people born on military bases in south or Central America that have birth certificates from there that legally qualify them, one is pure Irish decent but "legally" the birth certificate makes him Hispanic.. But you don't need it. Part of my family moved to Texas while it was still Mexico. That actually legally qualifies me as Mexican/Hispanic, while I've never claimed it.
