Paul Manafort Teamed Up With Obama’s Lawyer to Help Putin Ally As the examination of pro-Kremlin influence-peddling continues, Democrats are coming under scrutiny, too. It wasn’t just Republicans. When Paul Manafort needed a powerful D.C. law firm to bless an alarming act by his clients in Kiev’s pro-Kremlin regime in Kiev, Donald Trump’s future campaign chairman turned to attorneys with significant ties to Barack Obama’s administration. In exchange, a team led by Obama’s former White House counsel Greg Craig at the firm of Skadden Arps produced a report that whitewashed the pro-Putin government of Viktor Yanukovych for jailing Yanukovych’s anti-Kremlin predecessor. Manafort consulted for Yanukovych’s Party of Regions. And they did it all for roughly $13,000—a conspicuously small amount for top lawyers at a prestigious law firm. (Prosecutors in Ukraine have reportedly alleged a million dollars more in secret payments.) It’s an episode indicating Manafort, who now faces criminal investigation in the Trump-Russia saga, made sure to try to spread the wealth to the Democratic Party before assisting in Donald Trump’s takeover of the Republican Party. And it underscores that a truly independent investigation into Russian election interference would likely implicate Democratic figures as well as Republicans—something already emerging, as work that PR firms with ties to Hillary Clinton and other Democrats did for Vladimir Putin’s allies become increasingly conspicuous. Funny how this is the Daily Beast and the rest of the story and not one single mention of Obama. Plus Mercury LLC a lobbying firm mentioned as working for this Russian friend-of-Putin, used a Gingrich man Ed Kutler in there too. (some people get an endorsement from a 'name' like Gingrinch...there in) HERE Still can't see what any of this had to do with Obama. Why am I not surprised ?

I guess the most interesting about the OP is that the article basically says: "the Republicans WERE working with the Russians but so were the Democrats" I never thought I'd see that admission from the OP.

I guess if you hire a lawyer from anywhere, you should check to see who else they have defended, because it automatically makes you guilty of every single crime their worst client has committed. Since Skadden Arps is one of the highest-grossing law firms in the world and top firm on Wall Street, I'm guessing that a lot of people are going to be coming under investigation for having ties to Manafort. All of them are definitely leads worth pursuing. Great journalism, great story, great poster.

There's more noise here than talk. Every OP devolves into personal attacks by post #3. The majority of regulars turn every topic into their pet issue. There is more responding to straw men than members. I would say all non-partisan topics become partisan, but it's more like they devolve into a fight between conservative vs. liberal using made up terms like "alt-left", phoqing, or felchgobbler. I guess it's just hard to have a discussion in a place full of big personalities, big wills, big egos, and big mouths. Was it better in the olden times, when there were active mods? It didn't used to be that way. We really got into long and ranging discussions. Thoughtful ones. Realistic points of view. Now it's just troll city as a handful of posters bore the rest out. I wonder what they'll talk about when it's just them?
