What does any of this have to do with 'the illusion of democracy'? This is a public opinion poll, dealing with how the public perceives law enforcement, and as far as I can tell has absolutely nothing to do with policy. I definitely don't see any looming government conspiracy to suppress dissent. What I do see is evidence that people are realizing law enforcement tends to attract a lot of scumbags, racists and wannabe fascists who are dying to use violence against the easiest possible targets. But this isn't being sanctioned by government, it is merely something that has been tolerated by law enforcement, probably due to the nature of their job. Even going through airport security now, you're bound to meet some snarky fascist douchebag who is just dying to put someone in jail based on how they look.

First of all, the United States is not now, nor ever been a democracy, it is a republic. The difference is that in a democracy every decision affecting the country as a whole would be voted on by all eligible voters, in a Republic, people are elected to vote the way their constituents want them to, which doesnt happen anyway.
