So in essence you are saying America is bemoaning, like the gluttonous entitled crybaby bitches they are, about cheap Mexican labor, fruit pickers aside. And blaming the Olmecs, Maya, Teotihuacan, Toltec, and Aztec for its woes.

All I see here is I Want: greed and gluttony. What a wonderful ethos.

My workhouse (Life in a workhouse was intended to be harsh, to deter the able-bodied poor and to ensure that only the truly destitute would apply. But in areas such as the provision of free medical care and education for children, neither of which was available to the poor in England living outside workhouses until the early 20th century, workhouse inmates were advantaged over the general population, a dilemma that the Poor Law authorities never managed to reconcile).

Isn't America in the process of ripping up every trade agreement it has?
May I have another plate of gruel "please Sir"
Lashings of the orange gruel to go around, so worry not.

I understand that point, but unions are majority rule and if you choose to belong to one you have to go along with that. You did get a vote on the leadership after all, and if you truly felt you could not support the majority decision, you always had the option of changing jobs.
Hard to change jobs if there is no "right-to-work" rule, isn't it?

Not that I ever noticed. I always had a new job lined up before leaving one. And never in my life spent more than three days looking, usually only one. And none of those were in right to work states.

When you say "We're going to re-negotiate," you open the door to everything.

I am sure that is just the tip of the iceberg of problems with re-negotiation.. Wouldnt surprise me at all if NAFTA ends up in the trash can.. Mexico has been talking trade deal with China, sounds like Mexico isnt expecting much from the re-negotiation either..

If NAFTA dies, then other trade agreements kick in...

"If the United States withdrew from NAFTA, other trade agreements could kick in. Because the NAFTA countries are all WTO members, at worst each must apply the import tariffs they offer to all other WTO countries.

New U.S. tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico could increase to an average of 3.5 percent. For new trade barriers facing U.S. exporters, Canada’s import tariffs would increase to 4.2 percent and Mexico’s would increase to 7.5 percent.

But an asymmetric outcome — Mexico applying higher WTO tariffs against U.S. exporters than the United States applies against Mexican exporters — would seem antithetical to what Trump wants to achieve. Indeed, the only completely symmetric or “fair” deal on tariffs would seem to be the zero percent tariffs that each applies under the existing NAFTA.

If the United States withdraws from NAFTA, it is also possible for the United States and Canada to revert to the zero tariffs they granted each other during the CUSFTA years of 1989-1993. For Canada and Mexico, they could choose to continue to implement the terms of the NAFTA just between each other.

Less clear is what happens to cooperation over areas like labor, the environment or foreign investment. Unlike tariffs, labor and the environment are not covered in any other trade agreement that the United States has with Mexico. And the United States also does not have a bilateral investment treaty in force to protect U.S. company investments in these countries."

For 34 years I didn't have that right. Join the union or quit your job. That is what is wrong.

If you were really principled about the stand you are taking, you would refuse all union negotiated benefits too. But I never hear those who complain about compulsory union membership refusing to accept the benefits that union representation brings to a workplace.

His original complaint was about part of his dues going towards Democrat politicians. He didn't complain about anything other than that.

MusicMystery pointed out that political contributions can be opted out of, which would reduce one's dues a small amount, but I do believe that's a more recent development (within the past decade or so), so sfu may not have had that option.

Unions benefit the weakest workers more than they benefit the best workers. Some industries are so heavily represented by unions that he may have had to move to find work that fits his skills if he didn't want to be part of a union.

Thanks for showing your empathy. [8|]

It's not news that unions and the Democratic party work in unison, they have for over a century.
It's also not news that some unions have corruption among the leadership, just as politics and business often do. None are 100% innocent, and none are 100% corrupt.
But I do feel strongly that overall America has benefited from strong unions.
Modern working conditions are almost entirely a union benefit, and it trickled down to non-union employers as well.
The United Fund probably would not exist without unions.
And for every example of a corrupt union that can be found, you can find an equal number of corrupt business owners who compromised safety in the name of profit and killed employees by doing so.
It's not a one-sided issue, you have to look at the big picture.

No looking at the big picture!!! It makes too many heads explode!! [8D]
