ShadesDecadent -> Was Jemele Hill right in calling Trump a White Supremacist? (9/16/2017 9:00:34 AM)

Before you vote, or comment, consider:
1. Some of what she said:
a. Trump is the most ignorant, offensive president of my lifetime. His rise is a direct result of white supremacy. Period.
b. Donald Trump is a white supremacist who has largely surrounded himself w/ other white supremacists.

2. Now consider Trumps own rhetoric & what follows is a mere snippet: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2017/09/15/did-jemele-hill-cross-the-line-espn-controversy-reveals-the-news-medias-enduring-struggle-with-race/?utm_term=.8c3e79298633
a. As a candidate for president, Donald Trump retweeted bogus statistics massively exaggerating the rate at which blacks murder whites.
b. As a very public private citizen, Trump appealed for the reinstatement of the death penalty in New York after the Central Park rape case made headlines. “I want to hate these muggers and murderers. They should be forced to suffer and, when they kill, they should be executed for their crimes,” wrote Trump in a 1989 ad that ran in various newspapers. The “Central Park Five” — a group of black and Latino teens — were later convicted of the crime, and years later exonerated. After the Central Park Five reached a settlement with the city in 2014, Trump wrote an opinion piece calling it a “disgrace.”
c. As a publicity-seeking reality TV star, Trump led the “birther” campaign against President Barack Obama, one of the most racist escapades in this century.
d. As a brilliant self-taught campaign strategist, Trump said at his kickoff event, “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. … They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.” Pressed later by CNN’s Don Lemon about the offensiveness of those comments, Trump responded, “Somebody’s doing the raping, Don.”
e. His actions regarding Charlottesville

Further consider he expresses his opinions lies, untruths, made up shit via his own twitter account, amongst other platforms. One of his tweets on this episode was

ESPN is paying a really big price for its politics (and bad programming). People are dumping it in RECORD numbers. Apologize for untruth!

No he is not. But he sure wants to court their votes.

Just as he wants to court the votes of those who feel the zionist conspiracy is behind all of the evil in the world, including stirring up the niggers to cause trouble.
What could possibly go wrong with trying to juggle those to balls at once, eh?

ShadesDecadent -> RE: Was Jemele Hill right in calling Trump a White Supremacist? (9/16/2017 12:01:38 PM)

She is a bit tasty isn't she. (Are you on the booze tonight?)

The first Quarter and the votes are in:
Four people said she was correct
Seven naysayers (Russian’s probably, torn down statues, statutes and wearers of a plain white sheet with two eye wholes cut out) said she was not correct.

Like him, loathe Cock Womble: if he is entitled to his opinions in an official capacity why is she not allowed hers in a personal capacity?

Because her opinions differ from his, obvs.

I get you. Her opinions differ from his bigotry and outré fibs, and she should be flogged to death post-haste, and then hurled, verily and merrily, into a bath tub full of bleach?

Someone (my here, not this here), 2 hours ago, tried to explain what a Witch Pond was to me. Perhaps you can help me out with that one?

WhoreMods -> RE: Was Jemele Hill right in calling Trump a White Supremacist? (9/16/2017 12:43:49 PM)

No idea, I'm afraid. Are Witch Pond a black metal band, or something?

ShaharThorne -> RE: Was Jemele Hill right in calling Trump a White Supremacist? (9/16/2017 12:50:59 PM)

A Witch Pond is a pond to test people for the crime of Witchcraft, especially during the Reformation. When the subject is accused, the person is led to the pond, strapped into a 'chair' and put over the water where the dunking begins. After several minutes of that, if the subject survives, they are declared to be a witch, if not "woe to gone, we kill an innocent person" and the murderers walk away scot free.

ShadesDecadent -> RE: Was Jemele Hill right in calling Trump a White Supremacist? (9/16/2017 12:55:03 PM)

Apparently a real thing in England and their posh villages with thatched roofs.

Then we had a bit of a ado over whether if she (witch) sank, or floated, what one was the “witch” again. I said the floater? And they said the sinky one. Better to burn them I suppose and let God sort it out later.

Right. I thought they just threw them in and saw if they floated, rather than having a special pond to do it in...

Made2Obey -> RE: Was Jemele Hill right in calling Trump a White Supremacist? (9/16/2017 1:17:03 PM)

Witch pond testing could be done in any pond deep enough that the suspected witch could not stand on the bottom.
Since Medieval English all "knew" that witches were made of wood, then obviously if she floated she was wood and therefore a witch.
If the poor suspect sank and drowned she was obviously innocent and could be buried in the local church cemetery.
Of course if she floated then she was burned at the stake, because wood makes for a lovely bonfire.
Either way, once accused, she was going to end up dead.
I'm rather expecting the left to bring back witch pond testing any time now.

As much as I would have liked to answer 'no', the truth is that whatever he personally believes, he is probably the closest that the far right has ever come to not only legitimizing their cause, but actually implementing it. It is impossible for someone who has played such a prominent role in this to not be considered one of them. There have been other truly disgusting people to emerge from the GOP, but nobody has been able to take the vilest, worst aspects of the GOP and make them this scary.

It's telling that headlines from his friends and supporters at Breitbart are virtually indistinguishable from headlines featured in KKK-run newspapers from the early 20th century:

http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_vault/2017/09/14/quiz_tests_whether_headlines_came_from_breitbart_or_1920s_kkk_newspapers.html

Trump would not be president without the white supremacy/white nationalist/neo-Nazi movements.
It's a nightmare that could easily become an even greater nightmare.

though im reluctant to support a thread started by someone with a mental illness who is supposed to be banned, that dam it seems has already been breached and this is an important point:

"ESPN Employee: ‘I Pretend I’m A Democrat So I Can Keep My Job Here"'

quote:

It was another bad week for ESPN. Controversy erupted when host Jemele Hill tweeted that President Donald Trump was a white supremacist. The network said that this issue had been addressed, and that she realized her actions were inappropriate. Oh, and those tweets don’t reflect the position of ESPN—classic public relations move here. They also didn’t fire her. That’s fine. On its face, what Hill did was not an offense that would warrant termination, but was worthy of a reprimand and a social media torching. It was a stupid remark. We all know that. Then again, Curt Schilling was fired for an offense of a much lesser degree concerning transgender bathrooms.

Yet, where it gets into eyeroll territory (again) is what happened to anchor Linda Cohn, who was suspended when she said that politics might be a contributing factor to ESPN’s declining subscription base. She said this in April:

Longtime ESPN anchor Linda Cohn believes the network’s embrace of political issues is at least partially to blame for falling subscription rates.

“That is definitely a percentage of it,” Cohn said, when asked Thursday on New York radio show “Bernie and Sid” if viewers were tuning out because of politics, according to the New York Post. “I don’t know how big a percentage, but if anyone wants to ignore that fact, they’re blind.”

ESPN has lost 10 million subscribers over the past five years as “cord-cutting” allows viewers to cancel their cable subscriptions in favor of online streaming services.

Like I said, ESPN is a network where you can call the president a racist, but get suspended if you criticize the network. Clay Travis of Outkick The Coverage, and a sports analyst for Fox Sports 1, reported on this development earlier this week and got a ton of statements from his sources within the network upon the Hill backlash. One employee said, “I’m tired of pretending this company is not full of s**t” (via Outkick):

…most inside ESPN kept the Cohn story quiet until yesterday, when Jemele Hill received no punishment for Tweeting Donald Trump was a “white supremacist,” that Trump was only elected president because he was white and had the support of racists and that Trump’s administration — the cabinet of which features a black man, an Indian woman, an Asian woman, and multiple Jewish people — was “largely…white supremacists.”

At that point the floodgates broke and employee after employee reached out to Outkick to share the Cohn story and other comments. (Outkick granted them anonymity because they all feared being fired if they used their names. Plus, these are the same sources that have consistently been correct about ESPN’s firings, the Robert Lee debacle and now the Linda Cohn suspension.)

Said another, different ESPN personality, “If Jemele can say that and Linda can’t say what she said, what kind of standard actually exists here? There isn’t one. There’s clearly a double standard. If you say things the company agrees with, you don’t get punished. If you say things the company disagrees with, you do get punished. Maybe even fired.”

Another prominent employee who also requested anonymity stated, “If I’d said Obama got elected because he was black is there any way I’d still be employed here? No chance. But Jemele can say Trump got elected because of white racists and no one does anything? They protect the people they agree with politically. They give them better jobs, more money, everyone can see it.”

Another employee recently contacted Outkick and said, “I pretend I’m a Democrat so I can keep my job here. And there are others just like me. We’re like a secret society inside ESPN.”

This isn’t the first time the sports network has stepped on a rake. In August, they reassigned an Asian anchor named Robert Lee from providing coverage of the University of Virginia vs. William & Mary football game because his name was too similar to that of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. Yes, it seems Asian Confederates are a problem, ESPN. Dear Lord, fellas.

Travis said he has no problem with politics being mentioned in sports talk, though when only liberal ideas can be accepted—there’s a problem. That’s fair. This take on it; not so much:

You're either for social justice or not. And demanding that your thousands of employees remain silent on social justice issues is evil.

I voted no, because while Trump seems to be a bigot and does not censure White Supremacy, he doesn't advocate it either and as far as I know does not belong to any organization that advocates White Supremacy and so cannot directly be considered a White Supremacist.

But maybe he's a closet White Supremacist. [:)]

vincentML -> RE: Was Jemele Hill right in calling Trump a White Supremacist? (9/17/2017 5:59:57 AM)

Jemele was exercising her freedom of speech, the rock solid foundation of our democracy. The government’s call for her to be fired from her job is an outrage. They take away her free-speech first and then they come for yours.
