to be black quote:
ORIGINAL: bounty44 quote:
ORIGINAL: heavyblinker I can even dress it up in religion if you want... black people are the sons of Ham, therefore unclean. It's in the Bible, don't you know? sorry blinker, the bible neither teaches that black people are the sons of Ham, or that even if they were, they are therefore "unclean" or even that people who are "unclean" are forever separated from society with no recourse. http://biblehub.com/topical/h/ham.htm quote:
The name given, in Psalm 105:23, 17; Psalm 106:22 (compare 78:51), to Egypt as a descendant of Ham, son of Noah. As Shem means "dusky," or the like, and Japheth "fair," it has been supposed that Ham meant, as is not improbable, "black." This is supported by the evidence of Hebrew and Arabic, in which the word chamam means "to be hot" and "to be black," the latter signification being derived from the former. quote:
1. Burnt, swarthy, black, A son of Noah, Genesis 5:32 7:13 9:18 10:1. The impiety revealed in his conduct towards his father, drew upon him, or rather, according to the Bible statement, on his son Canaan, a prophetic malediction, Genesis 9:20-27. Ham was the father of Cush, Mizraim, Phut, and Canaan, that is, the ancestor of the Canaanites, Southern Arabians, Ethiopians, Egyptians, and the Africans in general, Genesis 10:6-20. So they are all a cursed people, apparently. Just because you don't want to believe it, it didn't stop other people from using it to justify bigotry. Of course since you will simply dismiss whatever you don't want to believe, there is little point in bringing this up. quote:
no doubt you can find some liberal Christian bashing website that says otherwise, but no, its not "in the bible" and so such discrimination cannot be "dressed up in religion." It doesn't matter that you don't want to hear it, it happened. And this is no different. quote:
maybe i'll search for a townhall article that agrees with me? would that be good? oh and also---smug pompous ass---you don't get to call something "ignorance" or a person "ignorant" when the whole basis for your judgment is simply that they hold a social/political/religious worldview that differs from yours. If you proceed based on belief and not knowledge, it can be said that you are proceeding from ignorance. I know this is wayyy too complex for you to understand (despite not even being that complex), but I obviously don't know what God's will is either, so that makes me ignorant too. The difference is I am honest about it, and don't judge entire groups of people based only on what I believe to be true. On the other hand, I can judge you based on the things you say, because I know you actually say them... and they are easily identified as stupidity. I know that this has to be explained to you, even though attempting to do so is pointless. quote:
how convenient though right---you get to diagnose the disease and then prescribe the cure. I guess.
