Ever read Gaimon's American Gods?

I'm just going to stroll into the middle of the fray like Shadow, explain it's all a con, and we can all go home and enjoy the weekend.

One of his better moments, that one.

This bit really cracked me up:
"These prophets’ predictions are based on a creative reading of the 12th chapter in the New Testament book of Revelation. To make a trippy story short, the passage goes something like this: A pregnant woman gives birth to a son and flees to the wilderness for 1,260 days. War breaks out in heaven between angels and a dragon; the dragon retreats to Earth and chases the woman. She suddenly develops eaglelike wings and flees to the wilderness again, and the dragon ends the chapter angry and standing on the beach. Yadda yadda yadda, the apocalypse starts on Sept. 23, 2017."

Who could possibly find fault with such impeccable logic? I suppose that if someone could remain agnostic or atheist in the face of this abundance of rapier-like incisive logic and radiant intelligence, nothing will ever convince them ever ...

WhoreMods -> RE: Christians predict the world ends Saturday (9/23/2017 4:20:01 AM)

Does anybody have a time for the end of the world, yet? I want to know if there's any point getting a few beers for after dinner, or whether it'll be a short evening that there won't be any point bothering?

Musicmystery -> RE: Christians predict the world ends Saturday (9/23/2017 4:58:19 AM)

What's your time zone?

Lucylastic -> RE: Christians predict the world ends Saturday (9/23/2017 5:09:20 AM)

Always did like a nice rapture, should I dress up or down.
"Rapture" by Blondie was one of my ol grans favourite songs...

jlf1961 -> RE: Christians predict the world ends Saturday (9/23/2017 6:57:33 AM)

Didnt end, fake news

Lucylastic -> RE: Christians predict the world ends Saturday (9/23/2017 7:14:49 AM)

early yet, and is there a time zone in this "rapture?

Thank god you came along to set us straight. We were all worried.

Looks like another false alarm, but if the world does end later, I'll be facing oblivion with a boilermaker to hand, which should help.

jlf1961 -> RE: Christians predict the world ends Saturday (9/23/2017 9:47:56 AM)

what setting people straight?

I was merely stating what no one had said yet.

While I do agree that the world needs a hard reboot, or just a collective boot in the ass, the particular jack ass that made this prediction is basing it on some obscure bogus science called 'Biblical Numerology' which, according to leading and respected Christians, does not exist, and is dependent on a mysterious planet that, if it does exist and is indeed heading for earth, has managed to do so in defiance of all laws of physics.

Not to mention that is goes against even the words of Jesus, who said that no man will know the day of his return.

So, basically, he falls under the category of 'false prophet.

Now, I do believe that a false prophet could be stoned out side the city gates, not sure. Of course, he may have been stoned when he was coming up with this crap, which would explain a lot.

Then add the fact that, when compared to the words of Christ, 99% of all Christian religious dogma is no where close to what the man said (if the statements attributed to him in the Bible is actually what he said) what is known as Christianity today is no where near the original church doctrine.

There is a statement attributed to Sitting Bull, "If Christians believe in one book, then why do they all teach something different?"

I dont care what denomination one claims to belong to, every freaking one of them preaches an agenda based on what they picked out of the bible to suit what they wanted to accomplish, believe or just so they could slide on some of the atrocities committed in the name of Christianity, from giving small pox contaminated blankets to Indians to the wholesale slaughter of entire villages of old men, women and children.

Of course, that does not even mention the 'Crusades' against heretics by both protestants and Catholics, witch trials, massacres of settlers on the way to California (google mountain meadow massacre) and a few other wonderful things done by those of the faith.

And of course, in the Modern United States we have Christian White Supremacists who preach the bible actually allows for the persecution of, enslavement, and denial of civil rights to non-white humans, while conveniently forgetting that Jesus was Jewish, of middle eastern origin and related at the genetic level to all those Muslims that need to be exterminated.

Which is one of the reasons that whenever there is a multi denominational event in town, I attend wearing a t shirt that proudly proclaims, "Jesus, Save Me From Your Followers!"

Since we are a few hours ahead in time over here in Europe... your Saturday or our Saturday?

ResidentSadist -> RE: Christians predict the world ends Saturday (9/23/2017 10:13:51 AM)

I woke up and we're still here.

. . . I think our dog saw something about it on the news. Found her sleeping in the closet, which is not normal. We took her to the closet when the tornadoes (2 of them) went by during the hurricane. I suspect she was preparing for a disaster.

You want a sure sign the world is going to end?

Here is what you do, get a drop dead gorgeous woman (you fit the bill, but do not know if you would voluntarily do this) and run naked up to a palace guard and start to fondle him. IF they do not get an erection and smile, they are either dead or the world is going to end (well they could be gay too, I guess.)

You want to keep her off the internet. Even without all of those cat pictures, there's plenty of stuff on there to depress dogs even without apocalyptic predictions from people who haven't read Revelations very carefully.

And you feel that needed to be made explicit?

As long as we're playing -- the day ends at midnight. No one said that yet. [8|]

Actually, for those on the other side of the 180th parallel, it is already the 24th, and I have been utilizing the recent spike in solar activity to monitor radio on that side of the planet, and things seem to be going on as usual.

Of course, this means that I really have to either buy or build a beam antenna soon, since my current bilateral dipole, while great for reception is lousy for long range communications.

Leave the dog's internet access alone, cats are already taking the internet over, so give equal time to the dog.

ResidentSadist -> RE: Christians predict the world ends Saturday (9/24/2017 6:55:43 AM)

Sage advise indeed. However, the problem isn't the internet. It's the TV. The dog likes watching TV and she somehow changes channels. When we leave the house, we will put a TV channel on for her. When we come back, it's on a different channel.
