ORIGINAL: BoscoX We are allies with Saudi Arabia because as far as Muslim countries go, Saudi Arabia is relatively moderate. We were forced to ally with them during the cold war out of necessity - for survival. Now, though our enemies have changed somewhat the need for allies remains If anything illustrates the abysmal depths of Bosco's ignorance about Islam and Muslim countries surely it is this claim: "as far as Muslim countries go, Saudi Arabia is relatively moderate". A cursory glance at Muslim countries will show that Saudi Arabia is the most extreme in enforcing sharia law, including the barbaric punishments laid out in sharia law eg. theives get their hands chopped off. The State religion in SA is the Whahabbi sect, an uncompromising fundamentalist and literal interpretation of the Koran. This Whahabbi ideology is the basis of many jihadi interpretations of the Koran, and has played a vital role in spawning - by establishing the religious/ideological basis - groups such as AQ and IS. SA's Islam makes the Taliban's version of fundamentalist Islam seem positively angelic and serene. No person with any understanding of Islam would use the term "moderate" to describe SA's religious stance. In fact quite the opposite is true. SA's Islam is the most extreme interpretation and practice of Islam of any of the Muslim countries. To describe SA's Islam as "moderate" is not only grossly inaccurate, it demonstrates that the person using the term doesn't have a clue about Islam, SA's version of Islam, what moderate and extreme versions of Islam are, and how they differ from each other. To describe SA's Islam as "moderate", as Bosco has done repeatedly on these boards, is as big a whopper as describing Donald Trump as a mild mannered self effacing altruistic modern day Ghandi driven purely by love and compassion for his fellow humans. It is such a whopping lie that it's almost impossible to conceive it unless, as in Bosco's case, one's ideological worldview insists upon it and as in Bosco's case again, one can defiantly ignore reality whenever it contradicts one's ideology. Relatively moderate, idiot. Compared to Iran, Islamic State, Saddam's Iraq, etc You really haven't got a clue about the Muslim world, have't you? Of the places you listed " Iran, Islamic State, Saddam's Iraq": Islamic State is not a country; Iran's theocracy is far less extreme than the primitive Saudi model; and Saddam's Iraq was secular not a theocracy and the mullahs and imans did not occupy influential positions in the State. (The opposite is true in Saudi) It is universally accepted by people who have some insight into the Muslim world that Saudi Arabia'a Whahabbi Islam is easily the most extreme form of fundamentalist Islam practiced on a State scale. The only thing you are proving by contesting this fact, and advancing the laughably ridiculous proposition that Saudi Islam is either a "moderate" or "relatively moderate" version of Islam is that you are utterly embarrassingly totally ignorant of the realities of the Muslim world. A western analogy for your position would be to assert that Fred Phelp's WBC is "relatively moderate" compared to the Amish. In other words you are talking complete undiluted crap, parading your ignorance and making a complete fool of yourself. You know nothing about Islam or the Muslim world yet have the temerity to continually preach us about your warped ignorant and bigoted views on Islam. You are compelling evidence to support the adage: Those who know the least shout the loudest. Though given your fixation about people howling, it might be better to change that in your case to: Those who know the least howl the loudest.
