Again I need to say this! Low Energy Jeb is doing a great job! The preparation of Texas compared to Florida is like, already you can see how inexperience Texas was and Florida just handled it like a Pro! The difference in who is in charge!

Carmen Cruz needs to take some responsibility for what is happening under her charge.

"For the last 30 years, the Puerto Rican government has been completely inept at handling regular societal needs, so I just don’t see it functioning in a crisis like this one. Even before the hurricane hit, water and power systems were already broken. And our $118 billion debt crisis is a result of government corruption and mismanagement.

The governor Ricardo Rossello has little experience. He’s 36 and never really held a job and never dealt with a budget. His entire administration is totally inexperienced and they have no clue how to handle a crisis of this magnitude.

For instance, shortly after the hurricane hit, the government imposed a curfew from 6 pm to 6 am and then changed it. Now, it’s 7 pm to 5 am, and makes no sense. The curfew has prevented fuel trucks from transporting their loads. These trucks should have been allowed to run for 24 hours to address our needs, but they have been stalled, and so we have massive lines at gas stations and severe shortages of diesel at our hospitals and supermarkets.

I’m really tired of Puerto Rican government officials blaming the federal government for their woes and for not acting fast enough to help people on the island. Last week I had three federal agents in my office and I was so embarrassed; I went out of my way to apologize to them for the attitude of my government and what they have been saying about the US response. When the hurricane hit we had experts from FEMA from all over the US on the ground and I was really proud of their quick response. The first responders and FEMA have all been outstanding in this crisis, and should be supported.

I have 50 engineers that I have sent out pro bono to help local companies get back on their feet. This includes getting people gasoline and cash, and helping them connect to others that can assist with repairs without delays.

I won’t allow my people to work with the local government.

I have a message for the U.S. Congress: Watch out what relief funds you approve and let our local government handle. Don’t let the Puerto Rican government play the victim and fool you. They have no clue what they are doing, and I worry that they will mishandle anything that comes their way.

They don’t need another aircraft carrier. They need experienced people to run a proper disaster command center."

Here's the truth: SKIP THE HYPERBOLE......The Puerto Rican government has BANKRUPTED the entire country...to the point that...they BEGGED the US Congress to bail them out 10 years ago...5 years ago...and...last year.

OF COURSE they're bitching....they're desperate.

And...aside from that...they need our unilateral support now...with no debate in this emergency but...try to read the truth beneath the "headlines".

Status: offline 		Interesting that a P.R. politico is blaming a U.S. Government for the failure of the government of his country to figure out the logistics of getting relief supplies from the airport and ports to the people. The last time paid attention to P.R. politics; they were screaming for the U.S. to quit interfering and get out of P.R. So, the DoD quit the base at Roosevelt Roads and moved the Caribbean Command from Puerto Rico to Mayport Florida.

Too bad Roosevelt Roads had been turned over to the Puerto Rico government. Otherwise the SeaBees from Rosevelt Roads would have been there day one. (Base closure and turnover of the Navy base and air field were done in 2008)

Status: offline 		Mayor Ray Nagin and Governor Kathleen Blanco were both Democrats when Katrina hit New Orleans, Louisiana, and they both fucked up every way possible, proving complete incompetence during the leadup, and throughout the rescue and recovery operations. Blanco was not re-elected. In 2014, Nagin was convicted on twenty of twenty-one charges of wire fraud, bribery, and money laundering related to bribes from city contractors before and after Katrina[3][4][5][6] and was sentenced to ten years in federal prison.

When lives are on the line, and the people that voted you into office are depending on you for their very survival, you do not fuck up. You do not show complete incompetence, or worse, total inaction.

You go to work, and you do your damned job. Fuck what Trump's doing, because that doesn't matter. There are resources available to you, you should know who and what they are, and how to put them to best use for your city.

Actually, that part of Texas is very very experienced with flooding. Gad, it is flat there and it floods like crazy any time there is excessive rainfall. What was totally totally stupid was a politician downplaying the severity of the storm and telling the populace NOT to evacuate when there was still time to do so. So you had people in elderly care homes sitting in waist deep water while confined to a wheelchair.

I went through some serious flooding out that way when staying with some relatives in the Galveston area back in the 70s. Before the storm hit; packed the deep freeze full of as much ice as would fit, filled two drums full of fresh water, moved the vehicles to a hill on the edge of town loaded with clothing and supplies in case of evacuation. Once the storm passed, it was swimming and fishing in the flooded streets. No power just hurricane lamps after dark. All meals were cooked on the charcoal grill out back. The power was back in four days and the city pumping system started lowering the water in the roads. The boil water notice on the water system was lifted twelve days after the storm.

My cousin out that way had a take on the hurricane of "The pretty boy that was elected had his head up his ass and the Yankee import police chief was no better. We just took care of what needed to be done and ignored the doofuses in office." I'm really not sure who, exactly, she was referring to as they live in Seascape and work in Houston.

Florida has more of a history of wind damage rather than flooding issues. The porous shell limestone bedrock with a deep sand layer on top allows for below ground water flow taking all the storm water away. But the prevailing winds pull many more storms into Florida compared to Texas and it shows in the building codes. Gotta love those storm shutter requirements. <grin>

Status: offline 		Well, flooding can be an issue here. My neighborhood is essentially on private dirt roads, and our access road to the main highway was flooded for several days.

Luckily, enough neighbors pitched in 20 bucks or so a piece, and we had a load of gravel dumped in the worst part of the road, to make it drivable again. Of course, that couldn't even happen until it had dried out for about 4 days. And a few guys just kinda take turns a couple times a week, to smooth out the dirt roads, especially after we get any serious rain.

We keep talking about paving the roads, but the county would go up on our taxes way too much.

But yeah, wind is our biggest issue inland.

I'd say it doesn't matter. Most people don't give a fig what political party a person is affiliated with if they are competent. The problem is that competent people mostly don't want to touch politics with a twenty foot pole while wearing a gas mask for the stench. So you end up voting for the least nasty of the political party wonks.

I think the point is that PR didn't support Trump/Republicans in the election and now they want his/their help.... lots & lots of help.
