a winter palace perhaps!

Edwird -> RE: Trump -- Socialist Dictator (10/6/2017 3:09:23 PM)

It's certainly true that some have come into great wealth by dint of their great endeavor and business acumen who either run as or vote for Republicans.

But the last thing they want is actual competition in their own sector or their self-ascribed duty to societal predation being their notion of 'progress.'.

Their thus-far-successful tactic is to induce those whom they prey upon to vote for them.

It's okay if they suck you dry and steal your house and take your job away, because they've got a whole line-up of others to blame it on.

File for bankruptcy.

Already done, effectively. Being in default is the same thing with less court appearances. The coupon stopped being paid well before the first hurricane.

See, when it became clear that there was going to be a whole string of hurricanes running up the same basic path (i.e. weeks before the one hit PR), Canada loaded up a supply ship and a couple other ships and sent them south, so they were right there on hand once the weather cleared.
If we could get our shit together in time to sail there from Halifax, why the fuck couldn't the US get their shit together to have an equivelent force close at hand, seeing as they only had to sail like 1/4 the distance at most?
I'll tell you why. Because the people of Puerto Rico are brown and vote Democrat, unlike the white Republican voters of Texas and Florida.

And what is their culture like? Any more details besides color of skin and political association? I mean, what aspects of their culture created such a debt-ridden society?

heres a partial answer to your question.

as to dizzy's inane assertion, remember, everyone on the right is a raaaaaaaaaaacist.

See a pattern, here?

Be it private or public, stupidity is allowed to such degree, and only to such degree, as willfully accommodated by the financial sector.

Greater stupidity=higher returns.

The incentivisation is there. Like with Greece and Goldman Sachs' inducement to restructure the government debt to be even more stupid and tremendously costly, like Puerto Rico, like . . .

Edwird -> RE: Trump -- Socialist Dictator (10/6/2017 3:52:50 PM)

"We can help you and keep you from having your 32" screen TV taken away from you, for only $5 a month!"

Just same ol' same ol', on a larger scale.

"We can help you and keep the power and water and phones from shutting off to the whole island, for only $150 million a month!"

Why should the Federal Government pay off PR's debts (or force PR's creditors to waive the debts)?

As to the OP and numerous other citations, I didn't hear Trump say a thing about the Federal Government paying off PR's bonds.

And he said nothing about "forcing" the idiots who financed PR debt and then endeavored to double and quintuple it to waive the debt. He just said "don't look at us for it."

Whether it actually plays out that way is another matter, but . . .

I wont be back for a conversation with you on this but I imagine someone else might be thinking the same thing:

where in anything you said is a "national takeover of banks" being discussed?

He's literally just a howler these days

Once upon a time he almost made sense on occasion, not any more. Trump drove him completely insane

Translation: It is up to the listener to invoke or not either his common sense or partisan prejudices. Can't have both.

I guess now is as good a time as any to tell you that I keep looking at your signature thinking "the opposite of 'man exploits man' is 'man doesn't exploit man".
[:D]

Galbraith was being facetious but he was correct too. The only difference is that the capitalist proletariat can go work for any other capitalist and...can borrow trillion$.

It has been said that the US middle class is rich. It is not, [it] has $60 trillion in debt.

I am certain President Trump is not a mass of lying contradictions. Indeed if he ever ran up 1 cent of debt I would imagine he paid it off, and very quickly at that, as he strikes me as a leader who leads by example and is above reproach.

The demolition work has been carried out by Mother Nature. So do they want to rebuild with a proper infrastructure with the aid of the Private Sector, or should Trump just take advantage of the demolition work, declare the island bankrupt, and build some nice condos.

78 billion is it? Is but a drop in the vast ocean and that can easily be absorbed.
Why isn’t Puerto Rico a state anyway?

I got the ticket, a new huge hotel casino. Oh alright them just say 36 holes on one end. That out to put Pr's to work.

Nothing, govts. spend when things are going well. When the tax break I wrote of ended, corp. America left. The vacuum has steadily reduced revenues and they...started to borrow.

BlackSinMaster -> RE: Trump -- Socialist Dictator (10/6/2017 5:33:10 PM)

The scrounging beggars are fair game.

A bankrupt casino. Pays of no debt. Even after several Russian loans? I like your thinking.

Would I get custody of Melania Trump or Ivanka so they may know a proper shagging?

MercTech -> RE: Trump -- Socialist Dictator (10/6/2017 5:34:20 PM)

If the U.S. Federal Government bails out Puerto Rico; can we get a proviso in the deal where no one involved in running up the debt can ever again hold a government office or be employed by the government and have it carry out to the 7th generation of descendants?

Would it be worth the cost to render defunct the families traditionally parasitizing the public body?

So you think that they will get enough aid to rebuild and let them keep their debt? Isn't that like rebuilding the same situation they had and then expecting different results?

Should they be completely rebuilt out of the kindness of others and not keep their debt?

Why should Puerto Rico get it's debts dissolved? Why should the Federal Government pay off PR's debts (or force PR's creditors to waive the debts)?

corruption and greed, its a human disease, a world wide disease.

Here's the interesting thing, then, Lucy. If Trump got PR's creditors to waive all or part of PR's debt, or the US paid all or part of PR's debt directly to PR's creditors, that would be better than giving PR the money to pay off it's debts. Take Haiti as an example. There has been a massive amount of aid, in the form of money and goods, sent to Haiti, yet the vast majority of the country is still in deplorable condition, after the ruling elite siphoned off what they wanted/could.

If Trump wants to get PR's creditors to waive PR's debts, I'm okay with it, so long as the US taxpayer isn't on the hook for it.

And, your point is... what? Wall Street allowed PR to fuck itself. There may be some perversion going on with financial institutions allowing a country to fuck itself, but the country is still in charge of it's actions and should shoulder the consequences of those actions.

With your post, were you attempting to add a category to "too big to fail?"
