jlf1961 -> Okay, well it has happened.... (10/16/2017 9:00:53 PM)

I am so used to Liberals and extreme Dems making bizarre claims about shit, now this.
quote:

She claimed tall, blond aliens kidnapped her as a child. Now she’s running for Congress.

Bettina Rodriguez Aguilera said the encounters began when she was young and happened several times throughout her life.

She saw three beings — two women and a man, she said.

They were tall, full-figured and blond.

They wore robes, spoke telepathically and were in a round spaceship.

Rodriguez Aguilera described her experiences with extraterrestrials in old interviews unearthed by the Miami Herald as the onetime council member from Doral, Fla., vies for a seat in Congress.

Several years before the 59-year-old announced her candidacy to replace Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R), she appeared on Spanish-language television programs and talked in great detail about her experiences with aliens.

In one video that was uploaded to YouTube long before it was highlighted by the Herald, Rodriguez Aguilera, a Republican, said she saw the round spaceship for the first time when she was 7, after her parents asked her to go outside their home.

Look folks, we know that libs are screaming for the legalization of pot, and most pot smokers I have seen remind me of Otto from 'The Simpsons' or George Carlin's character from 'Outrageous Fortune,' but come on people, please.

Completely delusional (sorry but the laws of physics pretty much eliminates the chances of an intelligent extraterrestrial species visiting this planet) and claiming to be an alien abductee pretty much fits the bill, are libs, not cons.

So, please, someone set this nut down and explain she cannot be a complete loon and be a conservative.

Libs are the alien abductees, cons are the religious remember the good ol days crowd.

And yes, I am being sarcastic, but come on, even now, where the majority of Americans believe that Extraterrestrial intelligent species exist, the majority of them do not think we have been visited, this lady does not have a chance to be elected.

Does she?

From an episode of Fraser. Maybe she should move to California, something like this could help her there.

MrRodgers -> RE: Okay, well it has happened.... (10/16/2017 11:33:29 PM)

I don't know if they even have any real influence but it could depend on how the aliens stand on the issues. Or say, how the aliens might influence her stand on the issues.

After all, the voters would have a right to know, right ?

Of course she does, so long as the aliens that abducted her weren't moslems.

Perhaps you could point out to me how this person is more delusional than say, Vice-Pres Pence, who believes in a literal interpretation of the Bible. IOW he believes that the universe was created in 6 days, that the Garden of Eden fable is true and real, that Noah built an ark and so on.

While I agree that this woman's claims are delusional, I don't see that they are any more or less delusional than Pence's or any of a host of other wackos who populate the political scene there.

millions of people do, and have throughout history, and the fact that you either don't know that, blithely dismiss it as "delusional" or put it on par with being abducted by aliens marks you as you a fool.

Pffff.... everyone knows that the flying spaghetti monster created the universe yesterday, complete with the illusion of there having been a past before that time.

Why? What difference does it make that millions of people believe a story, and have done throughout history, if it's still just a story?

Millions of people believed in the Flat Earth fable for millennia. That doesn't make it true. It didn't make it 'true' at the time when this particular notion was popular either. The Flat Earth fable was wrong, always wrong and always will be wrong, a fallacy forever.

Truth is not meant to be determined by a popularity contest.

So that leaves me still waiting for a single cogent or persuasive reason why this woman's beliefs are any more or less delusional than V-P Pence's ... it looks like I will be settling in for a long wait

So because your fairy tale-believing, delusional cult is bigger than most other delusional cults, it is only you and your delusional cult. who...are not delusional ?

You know that Islam has to be delusional, the Greeks and Egyptians were smart but yet, delusional but only you and your cult...aren't going to hell.

What a deal.

Exactly. Such a defence is considered an appeal to the masses, which is an argument fallacy which doesn’t hold up under classic debate standards. Just because a large portion of people think or believe something doesn’t make it right on any subject, this one included.

I've never understood the mania around legalizing pot. Especially inventing the 50,000 wonderful things it supposedly does. I don't think people have proven they can be responsible with drugs anymore than they've proven they can be universally responsible with guns or alcohol. Appropriate laws are a good.

Jesus, if you are talking about people proving they cant be responsible, you might as well add everything from chocolate to toilet paper.
