No no. Democratic would imply that the voters in each State had a chance to review the document and cast a vote to approve or not. That never happened. Even now, voters have no power to amend the US Constitution with a ballot measure, as can be done in some States. Democracy has nothing to do with the Constitution and its ratification. That was purely a Republic-type decision.
When and how long ago matters less than the process. Ratification would have taken much longer if a true election were held in every State for voters to decide, and the first proposed draft may have failed, because it lacked the Bill of Rights.
